Good Network Analyzer?

Post by Watcher3x3 »

Anyone know of a good network analyzer. I what something that can sit in the background and alert me to such things as heavy upload usage, possible security issues like worms or viri on my web server. I run a Windows2000 server with XP workstations. Thanks to anyone that can point me in the right direction.

What you want is several different things.

For Detecting worms and virus attacks, try http://www.snort.org a free and very good Intrusion Detection Systems

To monitor usage and network issues, it depends what you want to manage severs? routers? switches?

Check the Must Have Downloads link in my sig. I think there are a couple of things that may help you out in the Networking section.

I'm specifically worried about monitoring servers currently. Although a nice router monitor would be decent as well.

Your welcome :)

There are a lot of good programs listed there. Compiled by the good folks here at speedguide. The thread is still going/growing in the General Discussion forum.

Is Languard something I could run in addition to my firewall? At the moment I have only one PC connected directly to the cable modem, because I have disconnected my Nexland router to be shipped back to Nexland. Can I still use LANGuard to monitor my network security?

Are there any precautions that I need to take before I use this software? I am a networking newbie BTW.
