ATT Broadband

They are coming out to replace my tobisha modem this Saturday. My question is Which modem should I request? I know they offer two different types. May I tap on the experience of the Obi Wans out there.

RCA is good too, but I'd advise the SurfBoard. Indy (Cable tech) says they are a very solid modem.

Love mine too, never lost sync.

I love my SB4100. Well, it is the only one I've used. I have no complaints whatsoever. I've lost connection 3 times, 2 times due to line noise (I knew that because my cable TV was screwed up) and one due to some alien presence that Comcast hasn't explained once...

The RCA modems are nice except for the power plug. If you move it around the modem will reboot. This happens on most of the RCA models.

The SB4100 had a DOCSIS issue when it was first released, but it was corrected by the manufacturer.

Just remember that RCA and Motorola are really the same company, that goes for General Instruments as well.

RCA, regrettably, is no longer a company. It is just a brand name owned by Thomson of France. No connection with Motorola that I am aware of.

Motorola did buy the cable component operations (and maybe all of?) General Instruments.

Oops!
I was mistaken. I keep getting those companies messed up. So many have aquired and merged it's hard to keep up with them.

This is what Motorola and GI did:
2000
Net sales: $37.580 billion; net earnings: $1.318 billion; employees: 147,000.

A 3-for-1 stock split is declared on May 1, 2000.

Motorola and General Instrument Corporation merge their businesses to provide integrated video, voice and data networking for Internet and high-speed data services

I am running an old RCA 105. It has been running since Feb 2000. My speeds are great. I am sure that the speeds are not affected by the modem brand. There are too many factors that can affect speed that should be checked before blaming the modem.

Try the patches here on SPEEDGUIDE or the ones over @ www.cablenut.com.

Try different speed check sites. Don't rely on one to give you a correct number. Here is a place where you can find many different ones: www.testmyspeed.com.

No ideas....

I went to the Com21 site and the information available for the 1010 is very limited.
