I was one of the many unlucky att@home users to be shutdown in illinois since the early hours of december 1st. I have spoken to a tech, even though their message claims that it will take within 7 days to restore service, the tech told me that it could take up to one month. I have looked into my alternatives and found that http://www.starnetwx.com offers wireless broadband in my area. Even though it will differ for me, I was wondering if anyone who has wireless can answer a few general questions for me.
How is the latency? I play a lot of first person shooter games and i think that anything under 150ms is good.
Does weather effect my connection at all?
Is the download and upload speed consistent?
Can i share the connection with a linksys befsr41 cable/dsl router?
if that service has anything to do with satellites and dishes... I suggest u don't get it because u love gaming.. and it's all about the ping
that service might provide u good ul and dl speeds but it won't give u a good ping because of the distance the signal has to travel to and from yer computer
i think the wireless uses cell towers and u need to be somewhat close.. check into it tho. heard a bit bout it around a year ago and haven't heard much since
Thanks for the replies. I found this (http://wireless.iols.com/faq.htm#Comparison) on starnet's website.... maybe someone can interpret it better thank i can.
Thanks in advance.
Just word of advice, do not go to wireless if you wnat a stable connection. I was on Sprint's wireless for 6 months before I got @home. Believe me it really sucks. If you want to play games on the net forget it. It is too inconsistent.
