I saw a laptop on being sold on TV going for $999.00.
New one, I think it was a Sony.

Laptops are like tight little puzzles, and hard to take apart let alone put back together, but if your dads friend can do it, he could probably fix a broken power connector even easier.

It's a hard call, pay now, or pay later if there are problems.

I'd get a second opinion.

The price may be high if the connector has come off the board, that's not easy to fix, it'll need a good solderer, and it takes time disassembling/reassembling a Laptop too.
But $1000 does seem a bit high doesn't it.

Maybe it needs a new mobo to fix it, who knows?

If you get right down to it......... Does it look like something that is easlily fixed?
Since its wasted anyhow, go ahead and open the thing up (somehow, heck I don't have a laptop - but I did stay at a holiday inn last night) Yeah open it up, look to see if its just 'soldered' onto motherboard or is screwed on or what....

But I'd really like to know What is the Exact Model of the Laptop?

..that would suck to drop Someone ELSE's laptop..

ok :) .. Either it cracked the motherboard, or it shouldn't be 1,000$ ... for $1000 they would be replacing the motherboard..
