dsl to cable...hate to change but??

Post by sparks »

dsl now cable tomorrow?????don't know what to do
I have had DSL for 21 months with swbell. My speeds are
150KB dl and 13KB upload. Constant all the time. Pings have been pretty good with online gaming. Price $39.99 and some other charges that push it into the $55 range. Ok now we have cable in my town..@home...since I am a cable subscriber its $32 + $7 for eq...total cost $39 a month.
I have seen it and getting av 350KB dl and 15KB ul ok pings with online games..220 people on my node.(I am on a 3 month trial at $9 month)
I have not had any problems with dsl, and feel that it is good but faster speeds and cheaper with cable. I hear the stories about cable sucks once everyone is on it. And now hear about dsl offering more plans in the future I hate to change but I keep seeing more for less with cable.
Should I change and not look back?
I assume that later if I have problems with cable I can go back to dsl...since my eq is installed and paid for do you have to sign up again for contract with swbell dsl?

thanks for any and all comments...undecided and not sure what to do.....

you know the only thing that kinda makes me mad about swbell is their $39.99 high speed internet access...but for $39.99 they tell you all you get it the wire...you still have to pay $15 for the access. not a rip off but a little on the false side.

I think you'll be far happier with Cable. Just my opinion. It should put you in the 2500kbps range down. Cable sometimes has it's draw backs, but for the most part it is the way to go if you have a decent provider in your area. :D

I wouldnt get the cable right away. It can go one of two ways. When cable first came to my area, it was HORRIBLE for the first six months. Until they worked out the bugs, sometimes the server was down for 2 or more weeks at a time. It wasnt until they had offered the service for almost six months until it became problem free. That of course was until about nine months ago. Now, it's almost worse. The connection is always very shaky and I lose my connection sometimes four or five times an hour. I get it right back, so for internet browsing this is okay. However, it's impossible almost to download mooovies etc.

I have @home. No problems and great speed. I installed the @ home patch from this site wow what a boost!!!. Also you don't
have to sign a contract. I work as a Subrate tech for a baby bell
I am on the front lines of DSL repair and install to the DEMARK.
A lot of the CLECS are closing shop. I tried to test a DSL loop
I installed for ACI when we called ACI we got a message they where no longer takeing calls. I am no way against DSL I am all for it. I enjoy installing and repairing the loops. But the contract and slightly higher price turned me off. I may switch one day but I have had cable Before DSL came out in my area. Results may very for everyone. If it works and you like it keep it. :2cool:
