Tweaking help needed

Post by sianews »

TCP options string = 020405b40103030001010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 63184
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 63184
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2527.36 kbps (315.92 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1010.944 kbps (126.368 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 30 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

I ran the Win98/ME patch from SG and the default setting in Cablenut 4.02 for fast cable. On DSLReports I'm getting:

** Speed 1722(down)/349(up) kbps **
(At least 34 times faster than a 56k modem)

WinME
600MHZ
64MB RAM

Any suggestions?

You might try on Cablenuts adjuster in box that says Tcp1323Opts set to 1 to allow scaling as our patch or his does not have RWIN shown above, after you set to 1, save to registry at bottom and REBOOT, retest, repost :) :)

Increased to:

** Speed 1852(down)/351(up) kbps **
(At least 37 times faster than a 56k modem)

Anything else I can do? Were suposidly capped at 50 times faster than a 56K.

Please click in my signature where it says Test your tweak here, then:
At top where it says edit click and select, Select all,
Then go back to same edit button at top, click and select copy.
Come back to Speedguide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Please X out your IP address, Thank you.
Please include OS & system specs in your reply :) :)

Oh I hate to mess with other people's stuff but you asked:
Try these RWIN's (Default Rvc Window)
1 at a time in box on adjuster inside 4.2 on desktop. GlobalmaxTcpWindowSize-BLANK
Save to registry at bottom and reboot each time you change value in adjuster
Check analyzer here at Speedguide to be sure you have RWIN in, thank you
Try: 64240, 513920, 522680 0r 524176

And read on help page below in signature, 2nd page at bottom how to do speed test, you may like number thats in so write it down :) :)

I got approximently the same speed (34-37 times faster then a 56K) with each of those.

Clear cache (Temp internet files before test), nothing running, if you see a icon next to time, it might be disabled, but it is running sir :D :D :D

A 5000KB file downloaded at an averge of 1927 Kb/s. That would be with the RWIN at 513,920.

50KB file uploaded at 361 Kb/s upload.
I also took the advice of the help page and downloaded AOL 6.0 at only a 205KB/sec average. Anything else I can do to speed this up?

Follow above instructions exactly, you have to reboot each time you change RWIN, you should not be getting same speeds, check analyzer here at SG to make sure RWIN is in, not pcpitstop as they use active X and it just reads whats in your registry, but if you did not reboot then RWIN is not out on net :) :)

I did reboot and even checked the Speedguide thing before running any tests.

The site I was running the test on (when changing the RWIN) was giving me results of 1038, 1092, 811, and 952 respectivly.

That won't do anything. I've been talking with some people in the area via Speedguide, and they've been getting exactly the same. After many calls and e-mails we've decided it's some sort of RoadRunner conspiracy :) .

Lobo, it seems to be that as of last weekend, Neo.rr.com has lowered our cap to 2000/384. I'm still working with The Cable Company Tech Supervisor and have caught our area update-server being routed from Virginia instead of locally. I think they are still working on items that they don't wish to disclose to the subscribers. I've asked repeatedly about our caps and never have got a straight answer from them. This is what I have as evidence so far

Road Runner High Speed Online uses fiber-optic magic to bring you the fastest Internet connection around - Over 50 times faster than the speediest telephone modems!

http://www.twcneo.com/roadrunner/index.html

Test running..........
** Speed 1898(down)/332(up) kbps **
(At least 37 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

Test running..........
** Speed 1932(down)/351(up) kbps **
(At least 38 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

I don't think so!!!!!!!!

I know the uploads aren't right, but the downloads concur with NetStat Live and FTP Speed test.

;)

Oh yeah, forgot to tell the scariest part-I set everything back to default values and still got the same speeds. Now, I'm really wondering what they're up to.

Something sure sounds fishy, well you can call and threaten court action, that might get you to a position that you speak to someone in the know or they may hang up on you, then call back with the sweet aproach, the Mad Doctor can better tell you how to do that :) :) :)
