Slow NEO RR
Anyone else having massive problems with RoadRunner in North East Ohio? For the past to 2 days it's been unspeakably slow. I actually had to leave the house while I uploaded text files for a website! I think I was able to upload faster with AOL. And surfer isn't much better it takes alot mor time than usual to just open webpages and download anything. It was working fine last week and I haven't modifed any computer settings.
Uhhh try some easy stuff first.
This is gonna sound like the typical RR tech support geek but try a few simple things.
Any neighbors have the service you can talk to? See if they have also become slow. (This might be the best first step. If they are slow as well then it's a network issue and you neednt mess with your machine.
Have you installed any software that may have caused changes to system settings? Believe me...it can and does happen more than you think.
Clear your browser cache and cookie cache.
Unplug the modem and leave it off for about 3-4 minutes. (Electrical power not the NIC)
Check TCP/IP settings bound to your NIC card. If the settings are not found to be what they were before, it has corrupted and..TCP/IP can become corrupted for no apparent reason obvious to the user, and may need to be removed, reinstalled, bound to your NIC card and configured properly.
It may be a "remote possibility" that your NIC card drivers have become corrupted or whacked and you may find removing and re-installing the NIC card in windows and reinstalling the drivers can help. (Last resort)

I'm still on the Cybersurfer and current egtting .06 kb/sec upload. My uncle's died the other week and he had to get it replaced, so I think mines about to go to. Off to call RR.Originally posted by blebs99
What Cable Modem are they having you use?
I'm getting the feeling that your not on the updated circuit and this may be what they are doing. Do you still have the Cybersurfr Modem?
p.s. I'm in the Akron area.
I just sent you some info in your neo.rr.com email. Please read it before you call RR! I think it will help you tremendously.Originally posted by sianews

Slow neo.rr service
I to live in the Akron area and have noticed for some time may speeds drop. If it would be possible Blebs99, could you send me the info you sent to sianews. Calling Roadrunner tech support is a waste of time.
Thx.

Check your email for me, the rr account.
Save these results of yours and put it in notepad and send this to help3@neo.rr.com, They have to see this to believe that there is a problem and I think the problem is in Akron.
Also do some pings to your default gateway, DNS Server, and save/send those results also, don't forget to include your account name on your results and request.

Well guys, I don't know what's going on, but today I'm clear down to 7 times faster then dial up. Yes sir, Road Runner is really kicking some butt today!
Has anyone gotten an answer out of TWC as to whats going on or what they are doing?

I hope they didn't just lower the cap again. I'm back up after being down for quite a few hours and the fastest I'm getting is 200KB down. I just think it would be so nice if they would tell us what they are doing, but I guess that is asking too much. We also have the systems crappiest network status page of the whole state!
I still don't know what yesterdays outage was all about, but I did find that they had rerouted me for the outage. I went from here to Virginia then to Columbus. Everything is back to normal routing wise, but speeds have dropped from my usual 2500 to 1900 down. I'm hoping that when Monday rolls around, things will speed up again, but I'm not holding my breath!
Have any of your speeds bettered or worsened since yesterday?

I gave up at 1:06 a.m. It was still down and i suspect it will be down today again. My speeds are down to 1800 from 2500 friday.Originally posted by sianews
I just got back on after a 2 hour outage.
I just hope that when they're done with what ever they're doing, we'll have a functioning system and everyone will have at least somewhat close speeds. The best part about the speeds-I went back to the default settings and was getting the same test results as being tweaked.
I guess we'll have to ride this storm out and hope for the best.
Ever notice that it seems to always be this time of year that all of a sudden, your speeds drop again and lower then previously?
Believe me, we have and it doesn't get you anywhere and they certainly won't give you an answer! It's like some big secret mission is being undertaken. When they act like this, it's usually not for the better of the users either. Worst part-most of us don't have any broadband choices. It's either Cable or Dial up for most!Originally posted by Brent
call your isp? report it?
Well after much debate I did a bunch of speed tests, pings, tracert's, and the like and have just sent my own email to the great head end. Why do I have this overwhelming feeling that I'm not going to get a reply from them or if I do, the answers aren't going to be answers, but beat around the bush type of answers?
Oh well, we'll see what happens, if anything!
Oh well, we'll see what happens, if anything!
I sent the second mail to help3 as I never got a response to the first. The drop in speed is way too much not to go unnoticed! Something is either very much wrong in the system or they plain lowered the cap, but I'm thinking from what I'm seeing on FTP tests, that something is still not right at the NOC!
Just a little update for you all.

I don't think so!!!!!!!!
I know the uploads aren't right, but the downloads concur with NetStat Live and FTP Speed test.

I also live in Northeast Ohio and my speed is fine . Plus my pings are low. Try calling them to see if they may be working around your area. If you are still useing the old modem. This proubly what your problem is. Call them,They may be in the process of upgradeing your area. I know they ddid mine last year at this time. GoodLuck!
