Cisco 2950 Switch

Post by reaser »

Can't seem to get one of our switches working. We moved out IT closet and bought a new cabinet but did not move all the cabling. So we have 2 available data jacks in the office so we plug a cable into the wall then to the switch. None of the ports we've used light up. Gigabit port doesn't light up either. Tested the same jack and cable by plugging a laptop into it and pulls a valid IP and gets on the network.

Opposite end of the office is an 8 port switch we use for our lab testing. Plugged into an open port on that switch then into gigabit port and also tested port 1 of the 2950 and it links up.

What would cause it not to link up plugging directly into the wall jack?

Are you using a straight cable or a cross-over cable?
