Does anyone game on windows xp 64bit?
I'm about to start a new build soon with 4 gb ram....I love XP and would like to stay with it since games play much smoother and with less headache than Vista. Anyone have any experience with gaming on xp 64bit? how is nvidia driver support for current cards?

Every single game I've loaded played flawlessly on XP x64. Software that I utilize on a regular bases...it was either compatible or worked. The software (rare) that did not load, I just had to find and download the x64 version. The only problem I had was with my Samsung CD/DVD burner. Read below. It fixed the problem.

Just remembered. You will also have to hack iTunes in order for it to work on XP x64
Follow the link below

Hello Loop2kil, my name is Rick and I work with the Windows Outreach Team and I found a link to an article that was a really well written and researched comparison of XP vs. Vista Gaming performance. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1 ... 940,00.asp . Take a look at it and read the facts and see how it applies to YOU and your PC build. If you do choose Vista, I can help you out with some tips and tweaks to make it run faster and free up some system resources to help your gaming experience a little bit.
Rick.

Honestly, it's not about speed...Vista just gave me odd issues with games. I play some older games like q3 and c&c zero hour...q3 has issues with gamma(the slider never works right for the display, not back before sp1 and not now with the most current video card drivers). C and C had issues connecting to LAN games and major disconnect issues. I do understand that there are 'ways' to fix these issues but I sometimes like/expect things to just work properly without the task of 'fixing' problems.RickR WINDOWS-TEAM wrote:Hello Loop2kil, my name is Rick and I work with the Windows Outreach Team and I found a link to an article that was a really well written and researched comparison of XP vs. Vista Gaming performance. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1 ... 940,00.asp . Though I do appreciate your post and I might in the future seek out your tips and tweaks.
I've been using XP x64 for a month or so now and it's done very well. The nVidia x64 drivers work without issue as well as all the other drivers: on board sound and other various mobo drivers and my wifi PCI card which they support with x64 drivers.
As far as Vista goes I'm not a huge fan. It's such a bloated OS that MS really dropped the ball on. (Shades of ME imo.) There are a lot of improvements on the back end and DX10 is nice but the latter would be the only reason for a gamer to try to deal with it.
That vs a very reliable and proven OS, with the kernel for XP x64 coming from Server 2003, with XP makes it the default OS for me on x64 Windows systems.
