World of Warcraft latency issues (new cable service)

Post by Natasyerp »

Hey guys,

I just recently moved and got an 8mb cable line installed, for the last week it has been running fine, not the best latency but no lag spikes or packet loss, very smooth game play.

For the last 3 days it has been acting up and today it has been solid lag green to red latency for literally the entire day. I can't even hardly play.

My modem had 2 Rila-6 attenuators on it, I removed them for the hell of it and my latency stays in the green now, I am still getting some small packet loss lag spikes but in the green..... Should I leave these off? any ideas? suggestions?

It is a motorola SB4220 modem, running through a linksys wireles router (i have all the port forwarding for the game done from the wow tech site) Selco is the cable company.

THANKS! :thumb:

If your latency is green with them off, I'd say leave them off.

update : :

So the latency went back to being bad even with them off, i called cable company today and they gave me a new modem and now my connection and latency is even worse..... sites are loading slower and i have solid 1-2k latency in game...

I spent 40 min on phone with a tech and they said as far as they can see i have 0 packet loss, and a solid connection.....

Now i am truly baffled O . o any ideas?

Sadly I have to say that the fact that it's a wireless internet connection may be your problem. At one point I was using a wireless service, Clearwire, and experienced the same things. My modem would show a solid 4-5 light and yet I would lag in game all the time.

And like you I also contacted support and checked my connection only to have them tell me that I had 0 packet loss and blah blah blah. Yet clearly something was up. The thing was that 'normal' things that did not rely on real-time data worked fine. IE browsing, email, even file transfers. However anything that required real time data suffered.

I never fully examined what was going on, quite frankly I thought that it was a bit lame for me to have to troubleshoot a service I was paying for, but rather just decided that while wifi internet is viable for something things for gaming it was not.

I know this is at best only anecdotal advice but I'd advise you check out other options for your internet if you wish to game.

The proplem not in your connection, There are many rezones:

* Players have figured out a way to crash the World of Warcraft servers and it is spreading like wildfire. Nearly every server has been rendered useless thus far and Blizzard has yet to release a response.

* Blizzard servers can't contain 11 million players, Every day players increased, 2 million players has joined in 9 month That means The servers now full.

* Undersea Cabul cut or damage "Every one knows about it" FLAG Telecom.

And same with all Internet Cables in the world.

* Internet supplier have lots people using High Loud and thats make your data stop a wile thats stop [+ Latency].

With me here in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia we play with ~350ms normally :irate:
First you need to talk with your internet vendor :rotfl: and tell them you are playing online games and ask any one who knows about The online games and Latency and talk with him.

Best Regards and Happy christmas :rtfm: >> Bad English
