Managed Services, the next level of job replacement?

Post by Think »

With managed service looking to double in the next 5 years from network monitoring, security, anti-virus and spyware detection, hosting and storage to patch management, help desk and disaster recovery; it would be a simple task to replace a large portion of IT employees as well as exporting these services to competitive markets such as India.

Is anyone just a little concerned about this?

A guy I now work with worked for a company that went this route. He said withing 2 years they were starting to bring things back 'in-house' beacause of the really poor service and the time it took to accomplish even simple tasks.

yeah but alot of this stuff would have to be done on site..so unless you wanted to ship your computer to India I don't think that would work. Now if your just talking about calling a 800# and getting advice then its only a matter of time before all companies go that direction.

It's that +. Off site management solutions will allow IT companies to manage virtually all aspects of your network based on software solutions. Intel introduced the Vpro chipset as well that accommodates many of these aspects including the turning on and off the equipment - most cost will be bearing on how many nodes a client has. It's been around for years but it's starting to hit the main stream and soon you will see your Internet provider, Dell and HP getting into this and that will bring the issue of foreign management solutions.

Oh well.

And spam and viruses are on the rise, so the home market may get better.

Outlook.. the future.

Company servers will be the size of a hard drive.

And those servers could reside in any country,
seeing how internet speeds will be heading "above"
Gigabyte.
You will not have any "workstations" on the local
company LAN where you work.. just a keyboard mouse and monitor,
there might be a "smart chip" inside the keyboard or monitor,
to automatically route the WAN path.
Basically all thin clients to server...

Where ever the server is physically , that's who you'll call if there are any problems.
Outsourcing really is lousy at the moment.. but when you really
get companies overseas doing this after a while, and "way" into the future, things can easily go this way.
However, I also think that there will be always foreign companies that will host future managed companies, here in the U.S.
