In my local area I have 7 unsecured networks
named like Default, netgear, etc.

Is there anyway I can connect and send a message to these
networks to let them know they are open.

I allready found my self connected to one of them (default) and not my own
accidently , windoz found and connected.

hotspots

Post by naira »

Some would actually do that on purpose, like hotspots on cafe's/apartments. Just leave it like that if they're open, the problem with it though is that youre PC will automatically connect to those network's if it looses connection on your network. One thing you can try though, delete all the preferred networks from the Wireless Zero Configuration list and just connect to your network. If youre PC disconnects from your network for sometime, it will not connect to the other unsecured network since those were not on your list. Hope that helps. :rotfl:

Yes, if the owner is using XP Home SP1 or earlier operating systems. However, as you are not the owner of the wlan it is illegal for you to access a computer on that wlan per federal law, even if all you desire is to "help" them realize that their wlan is insecure. Better to knock on their door, explain, demonstrate & offer to implement security for them, whether free or paid.
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

Also you should get the Windows XP wireless client update with service pack 2 (KB917021), so that it won't simply connect to other wireless network and also the update would fix other bugs..

Hope helps..
