Building A PC

Post by Godvict »

I'm building a PC for my g/f, she is going to be using it for common stuff. Things like burning media, making ring tones, editing video ( w/Ulead VS or ShowBiz. undecided yet.) , converting Video, Pictures, and Audio File Formats.
I need advice on some hardware. All the hardware must come from newegg.com. This is what i have so far.

_ ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe
_ Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
_SB X-Fi Platinum 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI
_ XFX 7600 GT XXX Edition
_ CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit.
I was told I needed more RAM, at least 2GB and that 1GB stick of RAM is better than 2 512MB. Should i return it and get 2 CORSAIR XMS2 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400), it would be n/p for me. I want the machine to be fast!.

Hard drives! Looking for a fast HD for the OS and progs, I'm decided to go with SATA, cuz the instill is fast and EZZZ. Are the Raptors 10,000PRM best to go with? Customer Reviews say the Raptors run a little hot, can some1 recommend a HD cooler?

Lastly, Speakers. Something like a surround sound sys with a lot of BASS. We use the PC as the music player when we host parties so something loud!!

Thank you for helping.

Well...looks like a gaming PC than a 'normal' rig but hey...I'd say if you're going with all that might as well get that 2nd gig of RAM...and a matched pair is better to have....just my .02

edit> no need for a HDD cooler ..i got a raptor and it's just fine....

For hard drive go with a 150 gb Raptor or 2 in a Raid...just get a well ventilated case and you should be fine.
For speakers - Klipsch - you won't be dissappointed.
As for ram, the more you can afford the better.
