4 gigs, only registering 3-gigs in XP Pro

Post by TinyTim »

Ok, so I put this system together for the wifey tonight (actually it is what I am posting from now and I have to say, this system simply flies!!!)

ANTEC|SONATAII RT
MB ASUS A8N-SLI NF4SLI 939
SAPPHIRE X800 PRO 256M 600 OEM
CPU AMD 64 |3800+ ATHLON X2 939P RT
4 GB CORSAIR TWINX2048-3200C2PRO
HD 36GB|WD 10K RPM WD360GD 8MB OEM
2 HD 250GB|WD 7200 WD2500JS SATA2%
MS WINDOWS XP PRO
LCDTV VWSNC|27" 8ms N2750w

First, have to say that the 27" viewsonic looks awesome!

I do have one question though, I installed the 4gigs of ram, the bios recognizes 4 gigs installed, however the OS only sees 3 gigs...any ideas?

if the bios see's it thats a start.. check a program called cpu-z and see what it shows. the 64bit XP I think updates this increase of ram to show.

Since 4 GB is the limit you may have to turn off the pagefile for windows to see it.

Google seems to agree, I can't find another reason why u'd be short an entire GB.

They told (us) to open up the Embassy, or "we'll blow you away." And then they looked up and saw the Marines on the roof with these really big guns, and they said in Somali, "Igaralli ahow," which means "Excuse me, I didn't mean it, my mistake".

That seems to be all I could come up with as well. I will try this evening to disable PF and see what happens.

Not sure how the Pentium D would have stacked up against the AMD x64, but man does this thing fly (of course I am used to a AMD XP 2000+)

I might try that if Newegg will not take back the version of WinX64 that I purchased when ordering the system (meant to order Win XP Pro...yep was in a hurry and not paying attention).
