telco rewire/co dist. change/new modem?

Post by nitrobengene »

Hi. I am new here. Been on Verizon DSL for ~2 yrs. (CO is WRLDWAXA) using Fujitsu Spdport RA14 modem. Down spds. have been 700-800K on a 768 acct. About 2 mo. ago, VZ replaced "some cables near the CO". Since then, my dwn. speed has been 200-400K. VX tech came out and said that I was right at the edge of the distance at which the Fuji modem would work (~15,000 ft). He said I needed a Westell modem, which would need changes at the CO (change from frame to ATM, I believe). When I asked why the speed was cut essentially in half, he said that the wiring changes near the CO may have increased my loop length enough to kill my speed. He said to call the support 800 #. The 800# folks have made it clear to me that the change from Fuji (frame) to Westell (ATM) will be a nightmare. Do any of you experts have any opinions? I am not convinced that the frame/ATM change will work. Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure what kind of "replacing of cables" they made that would have increased your loop length. If its true then I'm not sure that anyone can do a thing for you. The further you are away from the DSLAM the worse the performance can get. My suggestion: Call Comcast. :D
