That sure does seem like alot being allocated. I checked mine and its at 23MB. Not even sure what to suggest other than to make sure you dont have any adware/spyware running. Maybe even consider a virus.

i checked spybot, adaware, mcafee virus scan... nothing. and i get memory errors in installing stuff, some funcitons in programs, etc... could it be the motherboard, (like the slots) even tho i have perfectly fine ram? and no, no ocing.

explorer.exe might be corrupt or something..

try CTRL, ALT, DEL, and end task on explorer.exe and restart it again see if it still runs high...or run system file checker. i dont really know....

Yes, do a back up of the stuff you want to keep then move it to a differant partition/removeable media(CD/RW,DVD). Then just format the OS partition and and reinstall windows. Then once everything is nice and pretty just install your back up of the things you wanted to keep.

Have you run any memory test programs>? Try memtest86 over night and see what you get. If its a hardware issue formating will only cause more problems if your hardware is acting up now.

Not sure if this will help, but its worth a try. Goto Taskmanager (ctrl-alt-del) and then processes, right click the explorer.exe and see what priority it is set to. Normal is the Default. Its possible its using more memory cause its set on a higher priority.

Couple of things I would look at...

1) Is your memory a specific Corsair part number approved and 100% compatible for your motherboard?

2) What's the history of this current installation of Windows...have it been moved from several different motherboards? Or a fresh format and install on this motherboard?

3) I'd get a better opinion about being virus free. Run an online scan at http://www.antivirus.com (Trend Micro's Housecall, it's free). Also just download and install AVG free, at least just for the purpose of running another scan.

4) Adaware and Spybot, are you using the latest versions, fully updated?

5) In Add/Remove programs, do you have entries such as "IE Helper", or "Browser Helper"...other odd things like that?

6) Windows Updates?

my ram is 2-2-2-5 XMS corsair ddr 3200. the ones that light up. I do not have spyware, am sure of that, nor do i have virus, sure of that, scanned with different types. But its not just explorer that is using too much memory. Other programs are crashing with memory errors. and installations arent all completeing cuz of memory errors. WIll Prime95 work? Ill set it on all day to check.

Download hijackthis, and post a log.

On another note:
Explorer.exe loads many dll files, and your problem could be related to what shell extensions you have installed.

Do u htink it could be the motherboard ram slots? im gonna prime95 now to check if its hardware. But just be cause prime95 does not fail, doesn't mean it the ram slots aren't bad right?

But is it a specific part number that you got from Corsair after running through some selection utility like Crucial has...Brand==>Asus, motherboard, model==>P4P800....which results in specific Corsair part numbers that are tested and 100% approved for your motherboard.

You can't just reach into a box and grab any old sticks of PC2100 or PC3200 or whatever...there are many little differences besides bus and CAS, many other things. A vender can have 20 - 30 different types of PC3200. There are many compatiblity differences.

If you don't follow that when selecting your memory, you'll always have to wonder if the memory choice is what's causing hiccups, wether it's constant errors that you have, or a once a day lockup, or a once a week CTD, or a once a month application crash, etc. I'm not saying your issue now is def memory related, but getting the exact RAM for your system, I like knowing memory will not be any issue for me, I can rule it out 100%.

I don't see any 'obvious' spyware in the log file, but I do see a couple of things I would remove, or disable for testing (McAfee, the google desktop, vmlauncher, and Sun Java)

What kind of memory errors are you getting? Blue screens? Virtual memory? What?

uh like error 00010123501834fff or something like that, i no i have the right ram, pc 3200 ddr, at 400 MHz not oced, it worked for a looong time, 2 2 2 5, Corsair XMS, the site says its compatible with my asus p4c800 deluxe MOBO, i got 2 GB of it, 4X512, i get from newegg. Got sp2 once it came out, wutelse.

O, one thing, one time, b4 this happend, i stuck other ram in there that i used to have in there, b4 i got the corsair, but when i rebooted the ram started smoking!, i realized i had not reset the CMOS, so the ram was trying to go 2 2 2 5, when it was really 3 4 4 8 ram, i quickly pulled the plug of the pc. I made sure the smoke wasw out, and reset the CMOS, then i put the corsair back in. ANd it was fine. Later on some time, i realized i started having these memory problems, could this incident have messed up the ram slots? At first i thought my ram was messed up, but i bought another 2 pairs of the same corsair ram, and it still has the memory issues, and i no the ram is not bad, so is it the ram slots? but if i test the ram and there seems to be no memory problems with prime95, wouldnt this mean itss not the ram slots nor the ram?

Well im gonna do prime95 now, post plz!

Wow I never even realized you have the same exact setup that I do(mobo/ram anyway! :thumb: ). I had major issues with my setup originally, I had to replace my mobo due to a manufacturing error, it was a soldering job botched up to the point that it was crossing another connection. Might consider this! Have you had problems since your building this, or has it just now come about? Try turning off your PAT and any other Performance settings in the BIOS that is Specific to ASUS. Also crank your RAM voltage to 2.8. Another thing may be that your mem settings are abit to low. Try turning your settings to 3,3,3,8 and working it down till your problems rearise.

I have the same modules you have but only 1gig and mine only support 2,3,3,6 yet you have yours all the way down to 2,2,2,5 which is way below companies def. This could be your problem. And when using 2gig I think they recommend even higher settings then def. Like something along the lines of 2.5,4,4,6 or 2.5,3,3,6 .

Have you tryed using the Corsair Forums? Ram Guy is pretty good at pin pointing issues. If your posting memory errors and you pass all the tests in prime95 then maybe he can help you with something I dont know. I will tell you that he will likely ask you to use memtest86. So maybe its worth a try to try and run that prog.

Also have you flashed your MOBO's bios? If not make sure and update that. They fixed alot of issues with early boards.

You should have mentioned this in your first post! :p Probably time for an RMA or mobo replacement.

ok. i decided to do a reformat. Fortunately i have a 500 GB external HD  so, i replaced everything. Right now, i dont seem to be having the ram issues anymore. But only time will tell, i havent installed all the apps i use that really require ram, for instance Premiere. So, ill post some time later, to see if it is really an issue still

When asked "What kind of memory errors are you getting? Blue screens? Virtual memory? What?"
Your reply was "uh like error 00010123501834fff or something like that"

That type of reply doesn't help solve anything. It doesn't help you learn anything, and it belittles the inquiry. It's almost as though you feel your questions are more important than the answers required to help you.
A more detailed, or even better an exact copy of the error message, and whether it was related to a blue screen or not may have led to a solution.
Your vent logs may have indicated where the problem is as well.

Hopefully next time you can avoid formatting, although a clean install is always nice too.

To the future, cheers.
