Intel: P4EE (Extreme Edition)

AMD: AMD64 FX-53

Vid card: ATi X800XT PE/Geforce 6800 Ultra

SATA HD: 2 WD Raptors in RAID

Sound card: SB Audigy 2 ZS

5.1 Speakers: Logitech Z-680

Optical: Plextor PX-712

This setup (IMO) would be pretty fast
Fdisk?
It only take me one beer to get drunk...just not sure if it's the ninth or tenth one

I would hold off for a couple months until PCIE makes it break onto the scene.

Then I would get a 64 bit processor, a PCIE mobo with raid capabilities and a PCIE Video card because PCIE bus bandwidth is going to smoke AGP hard core.

Just my opinion.

Don't wait for PCI-E. AGP 8x cards will be just fine for many months to come.

Not to mention PCIE stuff is going to cost an arm and a leg for a while, when it first comes out.

Tricky question.

Do you mean best, over all, price isn't a problem, top of the line, shiznit? AMD probably has the fastest one out.

Another question is, do you have a problem with overclocking? If not, I'd go ahead and grab a P2 2.8C and a decent HSF, AS5]look[/i] cool(for those of us with windows), and aren't too expensive.

Video card wise...Hmm, a 9800 Pro is a good deal, but not quite the best right now. You could grab perhaps grab a Nvidia 6800 or x800 Pro, as they are the fastest out at the moment. However, ATI and Nvidia are working on getting their higher trim models of those cards out, ie. X800XT. If those cards are a little rich for your blood, for example the Sapphire X800 pro is like $445, you could just go with a FX5950, or the great deal of a 9800 Pro.

HD. Obviously Raptors. I'd do a 36GB x 2 in RAID, you could just get a 74GB on though. Either way, you'll be good to go.

For the RAM, I'd say depends on what you plan on doing with it. In this P4 rig there is some Simpletech Nitro PC3700 running at 975MHz and I believe the timings are 2.5-4-4-7. The Nitro was cheap, which is why we got it. If you're not going to OC and just want nice stability, go with Crucial. If you want OCablity, I hear Geil is good...

If you were to do an AMD thing, I'd do like an A64 2800+ rig. They run around the same price as the P4 2.8C, but are obviously 64 bit. I do think the P4 has a much higher overclocking potential, and likewhys a faster top speed.

I do think Intel is the way to go, in this case. :thumb:

Yeah it's looking that way again. When I upgrade next Spring I'll probably grab another AMD myself. If you need a new PSU too grab the OCZ one since it has connections you'll need soon.

DDRII and PCIE are'nt worth buying at this point. I might grab a X800 XT PE to make this rig last a little longer and put this 9800XT in my old AMD. :D
