Comcast. Pay by gb?

Post by CyclonesWorld »

Just wondering, does Comcast give you a maximum upload and download limit per month and make you pay extra if you exceed it? I know some companies were starting to do this and didn't know if Comcast did or not. If so, they'll be on my To Do List of things to CANCLE.

No.We do not have upload/download caps. :)

I certainly hope that day will never come...
I heard some East Coast ISPs are trying out something like that.

Actually Comcast does impose a limit but they will not give you an actual number for that limit so will only know if you go over the limit when you get a letter in the mail from them telling you that you went over the monthly limit and are in danger of having your avvount cancelled.

There is no set limit, but engineers do occasionally check the highest users, and port scan at times, etc. and if they find a server will usually inform you. If you continue, they have the right to terminate your service. This isnt something to worry about on the Comcast network though, and will really only happen if your INSANELY using our upstream, as in full cap 24/7, all the time.

There's actually a heated debate about that over at DSLR. A user's account was terminated for going over the limit, but Comcast advertises "unlimited" transfer in their marketing.
