Post by RoscoPColtrane »

Yesterday i went and took my physical and enlisted in the air force. Luckily i scored high enough on my asvab that i could be guaranteed a job (usually not avail in the airforce). Anyways i picked some kewl jobs and today i found out i got a pretty nice one and that my ship out date is october 1st. The job will be networking for upper class officers and such. And i will be setting up secure lines and doing encryption and such. heheeh i will even have security clearance. I hope this job is as cool as it sounds!

Congrads!!
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

Sounds about like what I did in the Army. Don' do anything to lose that clearance. If you do, you won't be doing that work. You'll be doing "clerk work".

Enjoy the food and study hard for your promotion tests.
Simply run adaware, spybot, ZoneAlarm, HijackThis, AVG, update windows daily, have a router, don't open e-mail, turn off action scripting, don't use P2P networks, don't violate EULAs, and wear a condom to get Windows secured.

People say Linux is alot of work!

Congradulations! Good choice on your AFSC (MOS for most other branches). Currently trying to cross-train into the COMM Squadron myself, for recent medical events, can no longer perform my regular AFSC efficiently. If you need any advice just PM me, be glad to help you out - but ask NOW, for you won't see another RIG for another 6 or 8 weeks whilst in BASIC TRAINING. All you'll see is an TI (Training Instructor) "politely" waking you up every morning, hehe. J/K, you'll be fine...just keep your goals straight and you'll be fine.
heheeh i will even have security clearance.
Huh, you too eh?
I hope this job is as cool as it sounds!

I heard it's pretty cool, depending on what you actually do. My neighbor works in the similiar AFSC, he loves it.

Thanks guys! Im pretty hyped up about the job. The tech school is pretty long can't remember exacly how long...but LONG..that is a good thing tho...more knoledge the better. Right now im in between going for 4 and going for 6 years. I told them four for now but i can up it to six up untill i ship out. If i go for 6 i will get like a 4k dollar enlistment bonus....

That money would be great for getting the house set up for when jenny and i get married....

Not sure tho...

My grandson will have four years in when you join the A.F. He just got back from Saudi or as they called it the sand box. He plans on making the service his career, so far he loves it. Good luck to you and i hope you have as great an experience as he has had. Even the sand box wasn't so bad.

Congrats, I joined the ARMY in '96. Started out in the Field Artillery after I had a degree under my belt I did a re-class to a 74B (computer) I had to attain a Secret Security Clearance and now I am the Sole porgrammer for the State of Indiana. Currently I support over 11,000 troops on a daily basis. The hard part is I have em spread all over the globe so it does get to be stressful.

If I would have decided to go to another branch, it would have been the Air Force. I guess because they came from the ARMY (originally the ARMY AIR CORPS) and they seem to have the best funding and technology, not to mention the best food by all means.

Enjoy, take your time with it before you start looking to far ahead make certain you are doing what you need to do for right now. Being an officer is nice, but it is the enlisted members that feel the effects the most. Officers come and go, some get commissioned and then non-selected because they just aren't what it takes.

Just do your best and be an outstanding enlisted member before you attempt to be an officer, that is the best way to make a career.

Welcome to the Air Force. Too bad you didn't volunteer to be aircrew.

Im huge into jets so im gonna try to get my eyes fixed to see if i can have a shot at flying. I guess if i get them back to 20/20 i could have a shot at something shiaty to fly. No fighters tho.. :(

Anyway if i end up going for officers i may cross over into something flight oriented. Who knows tho...gotta see if i even like it first...
