Help

Post by Neptune-Sya »

Okay, here is the deal.

Im running Windows XP pro. I'm using a DSL PPPOE connection to connect to the internet. Bell Sympatico is my ISP. Their caps are 960/120 i believe.

Everytime I do a speed test, i reach about 797kpbs. For my upload, it averages at about 103.

I'm just curious to know how every other sympatico user seems to be in reach of their caps and I'm not. Give or take - they are about 50-80kpbs within the caps. I don't even reach 800 :(
My upload seems to be okay, I'm happy with 103 for a 120 cap.

However, my download is lacking. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

here ar my TCP results:
TCP options string = 020405a001010402
MTU = 1480
MTU is optimized for Windows XP PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.
MSS = 1440
MSS is optimized for Windows XP PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 31680
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 31680

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
506880 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
253440 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
126720 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63360 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1267.2 kbps (158.4 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 506.88 kbps (63.36 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 51 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

How far from the CO are you? Your distance effects your speed, the further away the less bandwidth.

Not sure exactly. Is there any way of finding out? Or do I have to call my ISP?

Are you talking about the Ontario Speed Test Wolfgang?

Like here: http://fastweb.sympatico.ca/test/ontario/en.html

Or is it another site - if so, could you please pot the website :)

On the Ontario Speed test I still only average about 802 kbps

Yeah that's the one, I am only averaging 815-820.You think these numbers are bad as opposed to what?I think it's a scam from Bell, when I first hot High Speed my numbers were 1000-1012 then about 6 months later when they started advertising the "Ultra" High Speed they all of a sudden went down to 800, my two friend are the exact same, first 1000plus then 800, I think it's a scam for people to get Ultra.

Hmm, interesting theory. It may be a possibilty.

One thing is for sure, I was never one of those people to ever have 1000. I guess we cant complain though, it's better than dialup/

Oh yeah way better than dial-up, seriously though, last March(2002) when I got it me and 2 other of mu friends were all in the 1000,s then probobly since last October or so when then really started pushing the Ultra, BAM everyone ent down to 800,s.I was thinking of trying the Ultra for the 2 month promo to see if it brought it back up to the 1000 mark, you have to admit that would be fishy..
