What would u do?

Post by AMDbeginner »

OK.. the thing is.. i got adsl 512/256 (static ip) but my isp doesn't have all the ports open, so i can't send stuff on mIRC.
I was wondering if you guys would keep on persisting to the isp so that they open ALL ports on the static ip, or would u change to the dynamic plan (which has all ip's open)??

OR.. would you wait about 2 or 3 months and get cable??
thx

You can persist all you want, but I doubt they'll open the ports.

Is the dynamic plan cheaper and is the one static IP all that's different?

Cable may not be any better, as some cable ISPs block ports as well. Who's your cable co.?

i did tell them to open some ports, and they said that they did open them.

dynamic ip costs less then static, but will get disconnected after 24 hours, and i am a server, so my server will get disconnected every 24 hours.

there's only 2 cable companies, and i haven't heard of any problems they had with port things. I live in Chile, so, name won't help much.

got any other question?

If my memory serves me right.. which is probably wrong.. the ports should be opened on your side.

Are you using a router? a firewall or anything like that?

this is how things are connected..

MY COMP------ADSL MODEM ROUTER---------ISP ROUTER-------- INTERNET.

I have NO access to the modem router they gave me, and they have to open ports on the isp router also.

Seems like they put me behind a NAT, to save them REAL ip's
