download = good browsing= slower

Post by kb2010 »

i applied the tweak suggested by mnosteele52 and calculated my rwin by doing ten tests at sqeakeasy and using the calculator i put in the speed and also i pinged each of the servers and entered that as the lantency since i live in australia most american sites will be slower any way..i found my rwin and applied all the values suggested including the rwin...

i set the globalmaxtcp to 56940 and tcp window size to 56940

the very first option in cablenuts (defaultreceivewindow) i set it to 640000 cause i know i can reach 800kb/sec on aussie servers and infact some people say they have reached higher since our download speed isnt capped ie its capped at the max imum your modem can go... thats why i wasnt sure what value to put there

ok the problem i find browsing is a little bit slower before i tweaked i applied the web patches and browsing was pretty fast..

downloadng is ok still..

but i am a little uneasy about the analyser saying i my tcpwindow limits me to such a low speed :( 100kbyte a sec

TCP options string = 020405b40103030001010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 56940
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 56940
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2277.6 kbps (284.7 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 911.04 kbps (113.88 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 54 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 01011100
Precedence (priority) = 010 (immediate)
Delay = 1 (low delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 1 (high reliability)
Cost = 0 (normal cost)

speed test
2002-09-16 12:30:49 EST: 2488 / 127
Your download speed : 2488477 bps, or 2488 kbps.
A 303.7 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 127186 bps, or 127 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

also does anyone know how to get commandpromt shortcut in start menu? i seem to have deleted it..

i run command.com from run except is sometimes stalls for 10-15 seconds then says xms driver already running..etc

your analyzer results look fine.. want your command prompt look for it in your explorer..
if you can open your explorer. Hit WindowsKey + e . look in your system root for cmd.exe or C:\WINNT\system32\CMD.exe

right click and send to start menu..
or just click and drag it to start button.
or better yet.. hit WindowsKey+f . in the search field type cmd.exe hit enter.
it will look for it for you.. and then you can drag and drop it to your start menu. comprende.
get it up, get it in, get it out, and don't mess up my hair!
