unlimited speed yet slow

according to my isp there is no download cap in place (speed cap)

yet that higest i can seem to get is around500-600kb on a good day

of internatoinal servers i get maybe 300k on a good day (this is kbytes/s not kbps

Go to the Speakeasy speed testing site here, pick the location closest to your home, then run 4 - 5 speed tests. Make sure that you delete your browser cache before each test. Post your upstream/downstream results here.

As far as I know, there is no such thing as an "unlimited" downstream speed.

Correction, it says 100 times faster than dial-up which is 100 x 28.8 = 2880kbps.

this would mean 2880/8=360kb/s which isnt tru i can achieve 500 many times but if its not capped how come i cant achieve 800k? to 1000k?

i can get 600 if i am dling lots of files at the same time from diffrent sites

which would mean the place i am dling one file is limited to that speed i am dling at but total i can achieve 600kb/s is that the max for cable modems? can i make it faster? since i am not capped?

oh no there is a limit

for me until next year its something like 20GB in a month

but after march next year i will be capped at 3gb per month

$10 cheaper (ripoff) ie 79.95per moth now for 20gb a month

next year 69.95 a month for 3gb

As far as people can tell , Optusnet doesn't have a download speed cap (it still has a 128k upstream speed cap).

If your upstream 128k is being saturated, your downloads can be limited in speed.

Get something like DUmeter and find out.

I'm on Telstra cable and I get approx the same speeds (eg, ~5Mbps from within Australia, 1-2Mbps outside)

telstra is alo max speed according to whirpool telstra and optus have their download speeds as MAX

but what is max

trying to twaeak that rwin value but i have to multi ply the download speed with 1024 to find the default receive window...

i know i have reached 500-800k on optus

some say they have reaced up to 1mb/s dont know if thats true..
