stonecat had a link about the card awhile back stating that the 9700 was not using unified drivers. adn went into a bit of detail on it.

but overall a nice article! i like the screen shorts of the IQ.

Good article Brent!

I have to say, judging by your pics alone, I am staying with nVidia...

I don't game much, but I do flight sim sometimes, and IMHO, there is no comparison. I think the nVidia shots look way better than the 9700. Of course, I do have vision probs...

Benchmarks have lost validity with me as the benchmark prog writers seem to be working with hardware manufacturers thus obscuring the actual meaning and importance of benchmarks...
IMHO, benchmarks are becoming useless comparisons, merely depending on which benchmark used for which hardware...

I prefer to see real life usage such as your pics posted. Looking at those only, I don't see the 9700 being special at all... (remember that I don't see clearly...)

Still, you did a nice job on writing the article! :)

Thanks for the reveiw.

I will be honest I dont see huge differences between any of the cards, I dont even see huge differences with using AA. TO me when I am playing games especially FPS I dont have time to look at the edges or background.

What struck me odd is the contrast/saturation in the 8500 screens compared to the others. My 8500 has never been that dark, looks the same when using my GF2 (of course, IQ is much better on the radeon).

I didnt do much but look at the pics but in my opinion the 8500 is best followed by the 9700 and GF4... all very close though.. the two radeons seems to be slightly more crisp in a sense..
