Help me build my Budget System

Post by IceCube »

Hey! I would like to build my own budget system and was wondering what you guys would recommend(processor speed, mobo, amount of ram, video card, dvd rom, sound card, hard drive..etc.). I already have a monitor so I don't really need a new one right now.

My budget is about $500US/$750Cnd.

I'm planning to get an AMD XP processor(so no pentiums :D ). And I already have a cdrw, but I do plan on getting a dvd rom. I'm using cable right now so I don't need a fax-modem.

So, can anyone recommend something?? Like...

CPU:
Mobo:
RAM:
Hard Drive:
Video Card:
DVD Rom:
Sound Card:

Thx!

:)

I don't need:

- monitor
- cd burner
- mouse/keyboard
- speakers
- fax modem
- case+power supply(my friend got one for me)

basically I only need the 7 things.

cpu, mobo, ram, hard drive, video card, dvd rom(well..you can cross this off if there is a budget problem..coz i can use my old cd-rom), and sound card.

Thx again!

Motherboard: EPoX 8K3A VIA KT333, ATA-133, audio $174
CPU: Athlon XP 1600+ OEM $104
Memory: KingMax 256MB_PC-2700 DDR333_SDRAM $125
Video: Sapphire ATI_Radeon 7500 64MB DDR OEM $91
Harddrive: Western Digital 40GB $124
DVD: LG 16X OEM $58

Total $676
Tax $101.40
Total $777.40

Price quoted from
Canada computer which is almost the cheapest around Toronto area. I suggest if you have little more money, go with the 1800+ unless you gonna overclock yours like LT-73, he manage to get his 1600+ running at 18xxMhz close to 1.9Ghz stable. :)

What's the difference between the 256MB_PC-2700 DDR333_SDRAM and 256MB DDR PC-2100 RAM.

Will I notice a big difference if I use the former??

you want the pc2700 its worth the money, but in US dollars the Kingmax 256mv pc3200 (much faster) is around 70$

having a system under 500 is easy sinc u have most of the parts

DVD rom is about 60
Audugy Gamer 80$
CPU 1.6a 140
Radeon 8500 110
Hdd 80$ (40gb maxtor)
Mobo (i dont know but ranges for 69 to 150 for a decent one)

What's the difference between "256MB PC-2700 DDR333" and "256MB PC-2700 DDR333 SDRAM"?

If i get the Epox 8k3a mobo will it support both??

no difference. They are the same thing, both DDR ram, just the different wording.

Epox will support DDR ram only but not SD ram.

I trust them to send me a complete system. but as for searching for individul components its quite difficult getting what I want because it usually out of stock. I've had 1 motherboard, 1 CDrw, and 1 512Mb Stick of PNY, all came intact no flaws.
I do trust them.
But I can't say that you're gonna find everthing. But its fast and easy to find things pictures are available by default thats why I go to Tiger.
Newegg is the best if you know how to get used to just text. I just thought he was talking about a budget system so I immediately thought OKAY http://www.tigerdirect.com YOS did you take your meds? You're kinda snappy.
get it up, get it in, get it out, and don't mess up my hair!

Good system, where are you getting your parts, seems like pretty cheap.

And also get retail CPU instead of OEM, it comes with 3 years warentee and the stock HSF :)

don't know if they do or not. But maybe he has a buddy in the states that he could have it shipped to and save him the cash...

to forward it all as a single package would be fairly cheap if you consider the savings.
