Hey guyz, i'll be getting my new mobo tomorrow and i wanted to know if i should format and do a clean install of evrything i have since it'a a new setup or run with my drive the way it is. This is gonna be my new setup as of tomorrow:

2-40 gig Maxtor Quiet drives Ultra ATA133
Vid card, sound card and nic card from my sig
I'll be getting the GF4-Ti4200 and another stick of mushkin ram next week

Thanx, but i really did'nt want to do the format I'll be up all nite, but i guess you're right. I might as well format. it's a new system, why not do a nice clean install and have it run flawlessly.
While I agree a fresh format is in order, it isnt need RIGHT away. I have installed major hardware before and wanted a couple of days to reinstall. If you just want a trial run, is there any harm in trying it out first?
Another advantage to running a trial run... you'll see a nice improvement with the new install.

You are absolutly correct. I'll do a trial run first and see how it goes, then i'll do the clean install. I gotta finish my client's rig first then i'll attack mine.I really don't want to format and not have any fun cuz then i'll be dead tierd.
Isn't it a little overkill to use PC3000 in an amd system? I thought PC2700 maxed out the throughput for the XP's, I could be wrong, I haven't read about it in a while.
If it will make a difference, I'll swap out the PC2700 memory in my wife's pc for some PC3000 since I order memory in bulk for my clients I can easily swap it out without too much loss.

I'm not sure about Amd, I wouldn't think so, but it made a hell of a difference in my system, I went from 3280 marks for bandwith, to 4380 marks, by just switching from PC2700 to the Muskin PC3000. Very pleased with that ram.

thanx for your input.
Format it is !!
I agree that a clean install is good when upgrading the mobo, and cpu. But,
unattended install works nicely.. gives you a night of sleep, and then you can always go back and fix/tweak when you're all rested. Just a tip for the future.
thank me later.
get it up, get it in, get it out, and don't mess up my hair!

Hi, I'm a sig virus. Please add me to the end of your sig and help me take over the world.
LT-73, the Silverado is one BA cooler. It has five grams of silver in the base...the best heat transfer metal you can use right now. And it has two fans shaped like turbines that are very quiet on low settings. Great cooler, too bad it costs 70-80$.
PC2700 DDR-SDRAM typically delivers sustained throughput of less than 40% of its rated peak throughput of 2,700 MB/s, which is maximum for the Athlon XP's. This allows for faster DDR memory to be used in AMD systems because even with PC3200, it will never actually consume the entire 2,700MB/s throughput. With every step in speed you utilize a little more, but the memory is so damn inefficient that you really never see it hit the rated peak throughput.. They should just be honest and call PC2100 PC840 but of course that would lower the marketability and go against what the peak values stand for. Dual-channel DDR-SDRAM chipsets will narrow that gap, but they can't completely close it.
now I'm just going to have to go out and get some PC3200. I thought I was maxing out the throughput with PC2700 and that the board couldn't use anything higher. Pentium 4's peak out at 3,200MB/s I believe.. They would need PC4480 to max out the Pentium 4.
