Here is my problem
Everytime, i go online, after a couple of hours, the pictures wont load, then it will just go "the page cannot be displayed". I have to reboot my PC to fix it.
SO i know it is a PC or Win problem
I am using winME
I have try the following :
Reinstall the NIC card
Replacing a new NIC card
Switching ISP
Reinstall TCP/IP
Windows Patch
Restore the winsock, and wsock32 files
Switching OS 98se to Me
If you have done all that it sounds like an ISP related problem, please read the Help & Tips link in my signature and try the troubleshooting tips at the bottom.
nutty33: Confirm you are obtaining an ip address automatically.
Confirm that there are no entries and the DNS is disabled. Then go to internet options in you control panel and click on the connections tab then run set up.
see if that fixes it
0pen your control panel ,click on network, then click on TCP/IP ( if there is more than one TCP/IP , pick the one bound to your ethernet card.)then click on the gateway tab.
when it went down for me
i tried to ping the address (http://www.rogers.com)
it said unknown host
but
when i ping the ip for that address
i got reponse
so i think it is a winsock problem
ppl have told me that it is not simple then just replacing those two files, that it is something involving registry
See if you can do a clean format of your whole operating system. I usually do a full rebuild every 6 months or so. It will also be much easier to do that versus trying to fix the two winsock files, especially if you are not comfortable with the registry. Although it's pretty much just deleting two reg keys if I remember right. It's been a while though.
The only other thing I now to do would is remove the nic card remove client for microsoft network,netbio's,TCP/IP, EVERY THING BUT DiaL UP stuff .Then reboot and add every thing back in .THat should fix it if it in the winsock.
Based on your account of what happened, as far as it not recognizing "www.rogers.com" but recognizing it's ip (when pinging) suggests that you may have a "DNS" problem.
As far as your first post goes (about the loss of picture, after a certain amount of time), that may be a software problem. Run AdAware (the latest version) on your system to check for spyware (like Norm suggested) and make sure that you are using the latest version of Internet Explorer, or even try another browser (like Netscape Navigator) to see if your problem persists.
