XP question
under control panel, system, advanced, performance(click settings),click advanced. theres 2 options called performance scheduling and memory usuage. i have those both set to programs. is that the best setting? also under virtual memory i have it set to 768. i have 256mb of ram. is 768 a good setting? i read that it should be set to 1/2-3/4 more then the ram thats installed.

ok ill set it up like that. i dont get why you would want the greater share of processor time going to background services instead of programs. wont that make programs slower?
ok i need a clarification on the registry part. you said "Set Win32Seperation to 56 decimal which is 38
anything set to hex switchs you back to programs", so do i enter the 56 or the 38? and should i leave it as hex or decimal?

Decimal value of 38 is a valid one; 56 is not a valid value according to the info provided by Snakefoot.

Right, 56 hex equals 38 decimal. So you can enter either 56 (hex) or 38 (decimal), since they are equivalent. Having resolved that, the real question remains: what value is optimal for, say, gaming. In decimal value terms, would it be 2, or 38, or even 42 (all of these apparently grant high priority to foreground processes)? I have no real clue, mine was set to 2; I'm trying 42 now but don't really expect to see any difference.

Snakefoot has another interesting "tweak" regarding running programs with a higher priority setting. I have tried playing UT in "high" priority but it just crashes. Last night, I set up a little batch file to run it at "abovenormal" priority and that seemed to work fine.
Bottom line with all of these tweaks though - if you're just gaming and are running very few if any programs/processes in the background, you've already done the important "tweak" and would be unlikely to see any measureable improvement from the standpoint of game performance.

ok here it is.
TCP properties for IP = xx.xx.xxx.xxx(dhcp065-024-130-140.columbus.rr.com)
Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 29200
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 29200
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1168 kbps (146 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 467.2 kbps (58.4 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 52 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
0 connections tested since 03.10.2001.

OK, here goes, see #13 below in help thread, NIC needs to be set at 10BaseT (Half Duplex for Cable)
In Optimizer select connection type at top, select adapter, select custom settings, enter 1 at a time 51100 or 64240, uncheck scaling under Tcp1323Opts, apply changes and REBOOT each time you change number in Optimizer, the following numbers scaling IS checked, try besides the ones thats in now: 513920, 522680, 524176, 531440, 548960
Speed test here, test will open another browser, close one
directions on how to do speed test in help thread in signature: Select site nearest you:
http://www.speakeasy.net/main.php?page=sup_pops
If from overseas try nearest site from here: http://www.testmyspeed.com/internationalspeedtests.htm
Directions on what to do prior to speed test on help thread below, turn off all running programs.
Larger RWIN does not always mean faster
In IE, go to Tools, internet options, connection tab at top, LAN settings at bottom, nothing should be checked in this box, NOTHING, No auto detect, no proxy, no automatic configuration script, NOTHING, REBOOT
