Routers
I'm thinking about purchasing a router for my two home computers.
1. Do cable companies normally charge extra for using a router?
2. I use a dynamic address, is that a problem?
3. What is the best router for the money?

To answer your questions I echo SilverDakota.
As far as to which is best.....
If you are not a gamer or do not expect heavy web traffic, a Linksys is a good buy for the money. (This is what I use). If you expect to be doing gaming or heavy web usage, I might recommend a Netgear.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I have seen a Netgear AR114 that was priced less than a Linsksys BVFVP41.
Thanks for the info.

I was planning on getting a 4 port router so I wouldn't need any more equipment.

If you're choosing between NetGear and Linksys, get the NetGear. They're faster and more robust than the Linky. Just check the specs. They speak for themselves. Also, not sure what a AR114 is. Look here for NetGear current model routers: http://www.netgear.com/categories.asp?xrp=4&yrp=12

Just picked up a linksys 4 port for $89 with a $10 rebate tonight to install over at my mom's house...it's also the one I use myself, and I've used it extensively in gaming and haven't really had any issues with it...Originally posted by arkie

I love my netgear RT311! Take a look at the RT314 it is a killer little box! a bit more money, but I think it is more configurable. I would have bought it instead of my 311 but I already had a 16 port switch. If you check them out you will see that with one of these babies you can do allot more

People seem not to like the linksys but I've never had a problem with mine, but the Nexland has a faster CPU, I've never used one, but I would like to try one out. So its your call. I didn't have a choice when I got the linksys, father paid for it.... you know how it goes....

Update......
Purchased a Linksys BEFSR41 router at Walmart. Ran 75 ft. of cat 5E cable, plugged in the router, cable from modem, cables to my two computers. Turn the power on and I came online with both computers....
No configuration.. right out of box online... that is the way to go!
