Do you guyes read books?
I do when its a good novel. I also like the mags. called Popular Science and Popular Mechanics. I'm finally reading The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien. I started it on Friday and I'm about 1/3 done. This is a good book. I'm going to read Loard of the Rings next" "
To sense the presence of an angel is like feeling the wind all around you. You cannot actually see the wind, but you notice it's movements, and you know that it is there.
I love a good book. Have read most of the classics (no not just because they were required reading ). I have an old copy of War and Peace that I swear I will get through someday!
Also have read the Hobbitt and LOTR, in the middle of reading it again right now.
I think I have only NOT read two Stephen King books; Blackhouse and Dreamcatcher.
Like anything good. Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy books are good too.
Just about to finish "Debt if Honor" Clancy novel. My problem is I speed read, I go thru a 1200 page book in two days. Costs more than goin to the movies. Debt is a damn good book BTW.
Well dang it, should read Debt OF Honor, not if. Geez.

Historical Adventure was a fav, but a series that I liked alot was by John MacDonald, "Travis McGee"...
And probably 30 years ago, I enjoyed an Alfred Hitch****'s Three Investigators series. (I think that was the name, dang the CRS syndrome...)
In my youth, I would read anything, even dictionaries and encyclopedias...
Actually reading a Spanish/English Dictionary made learning Spanish easier. Just "foolin' around" I established quite a vocabulary and laid a good background for reading and writing it.
i like reading sometimes. just depends on what the book is about. i usually like vampire/gothic and fantasy books.

I read at least one book a week, although usually it's more. I wish I had the stomach to read nonfiction. Although I love when a talented writer incorporates a lot of interesting facts and I can learn something. My old job was amazing because it was mostly typing. I would use books on tape and often listened to two books a day. I learned a LOT and was introduced to number of new authors.
I just bought the Hobbit, The Simalliron, and the LoTR boxed set for like $40 bucks from [url]http://www.amazon.com...currently[/url] about halfway through the Hobbit.
I'm mainly into fantasy books, but have read lots of my mom's mystery books..Sue Grafton I think..."The Cat who could smell blood" or whatever the cat mystery books she writes....those are kinda cool, Robert Jordan, Terry Brooks, Stephen King, Alan Dean Foster, are my main authors I keep up on, I love Fosters' Spellsinger series, it's one of the best stories I've ever read.
I love fantasy books too doug! I've read the full d and d: dragonlance, terry goodman's series(first book was wizards first rule), and that series with shanara by the fellow who wrote star wars ep. 1.

yup, Terry brooks is the man! The Shannara series is great! I've got the first 3, I need to get more into that...but like you said, I cant keep track of them all either, lol.
Dragonlance rocks...I used to read those alot when I was younger, but other books have taken their hold upon me...I'm surprised you read them all, there's tons of the dragonlance books!

How can you tell if they are first edition?

On the copyright page it will usually say so. Then you get into whether it is a 1st print first edition or a later print but still first edition. Maybe i'll get a pic or two to explain better than I can

Well I have a hardback copy of Christine and Misery. They have no sleeves and I can't find anything that say's what edition they are but if you want them let me know.

I paid $100 a few years ago for two very ornate hardcover books.
The first is a green copy of the Hobbit and the second is a red copy of all thee books of Lord of the Rings combined into one thick hardcover book.
They're really neat. They have hard cover sleeves, cover art, textured folds, and there are various drawings and writings in the middle earth language throughout the books.
Just remembered them now, even though they are always within plain view.

ah, you lucky dude....the red one is going for like $50-75 bucks on Amazon.com....it's the collectors edition, same with the Hobbit...collectors edition. Hang on to those...or give them to me.

As far as how to figure out if you have a first edition. It's tricky. Usually if it shows a copyright date and published date that are the same year it could be a first edition. But not always. Publishers don't use a uniform way of marking them. On newer books you will usually see a number line like 1234567 or 78654321. This would show a first printing. if a number line exists and it has a 1 in it or an A for that matter it's a first printing. Believe me, it's much easier when they mark the damn thing First Edition.
But they are worth a lot, depending on the book obviously. For example, I believe a First British Edition of The Hobbit goes for $30,000.
Mouse, on those two hardcovers can you tell me what the Copyright pages says? Like if it shows Copyright and and Published date as the same, to start? Or if theres a number line.
some cool info I'm reading, as I have a hardcover book of the Sword of Shannara...it says it was printed in 1977...but doesn't give any info as to first printing or anything...

heh, yeah King made it a little easier to find his First Editions with Firestarter I think it was. They started doing the whole signed, limited First Edition thing then. Much harder to come by.
