I finally hooked up my Audigy Platinum (with internal break out box)....
Plug the guitar and effect boxes right in the front. I am living large!!

how good is the Audigy Platinum, ive been thinking if its worth paying 170 pound for a sound card, upgrade.

If you do not want the breakout box, you can get the Audigy for about 80 dollars. The sound is incredible 24bit/96KHz and it is 5.1 compliant and firewire.
The box allows easy access to inputs. Digital camcorders into firewire for editting, optical in and out for Minidisk.

yeah, I love my gamer but I wish they would have sent better games with it. Incredible sound and the firewire will be nice w/ my dig. vid cam I'll be getting soon.

A note, David. I just found out today, that the Audigy does not support 24 bit playback. Only recording (or pass through, I"m not sure). I'm bummed.

Still this card has a host of features that makes it a steal. Built in Firewire being one of them.

Hmmm. What is the sense of recording at 24bit if you cannot play it back?

I just read the manual.

It very clearly states that it does 24bit Analog to Digital and 24bit Digital to Analog.

It is capable of 16bit sampling as well.

David, my info which could be wrong, comes from a newsgroup, I believe.

I was trying to get the MAD Winamp decoder to work right in the 24 bit mode. I went to a fourm and got this......

This is Creatives best attempt to bridge the gap between the home audiophile and the home recording artist(solo) and they have come really close. What we need now is support for ADAT and for balanced TRS inputs...along with multiple inputs for recording and we should be set.

But for the price...this is a killer card.

Maya 7.1 can't even compare. It is not even on the radar. Why?

Total lack of support for the home recording enthusiast.

dude thats awesoem i didnt know it was soo cheap, i may go for that!!! have that in teh tbird system and the audigy in teh XP system, that would be more fun recording and ****

I'd also like to add that I'm not slamming this card. I'm only disappointed that I can't get this MAD decoder to work.
I've stated in other posts, and I'll do so again. For an overall card, this Audigy card rocks. Most pro cards aren’t made for gaming or DVD. As Uod has stated, it does a dang great job of bridging the gap between home cards and pro cards.

For the 80 bucks I paid for mine, I'm not complaining at all. For the record, I've read elsewhere, of folk that have praised the MAD decoder and the Audigy card. Either they are still using 16 bit playback or I'm still lost on how to get it to work. The latter is a good candidate for discussion.

Uod, ths card , the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 was my second choice. I went with a card that could do it all other than a low end stereo pro card.

Once again, I'll stress that this card also has a built in Firewire port. How much would you have to spend for a separate PCI Firewire card?

thats a bit pricey and teh amd thing sucks, i guess teh audigy will be enough, through a gametheatre in teh tbird then, oh well.

Nevermind........I am an idiot....I've just now gotten it to work.

I can't try it out as my son and wife are still sleeping.

If you Audigy users are using Winamp and would like to try the MAD decoder.....let this idiot know. I'll show you where to get it and how to get it to work.

My apologies for stiring up an ant hill.....but on the other hand...this thread would only be 6 post's and none would be the wiser as to how good this card is.

Arrrrggggg.......I'm still an idiot....the file I was playing was mp+.

MP3's still do not work at 24bit. (Does not support the file specified) I do know that this decoder works with other 24 bit cards. Dunno.......

Just a dumb question here...are your mp3's in 24bit? If you ripped the music from a CD then step one is to make sure that you record the wav files in 20-32 bit. When you encode then to an mp3...you must do the same. If you ripped the music from a CD at a lower quality than 24 bit...you will never get a 24bit mp3...it just isn't there, unless, you saved the wav file which may allow you to convert it to a higher bitrate. I do this all the time with mono wav files that I d/l from the net...I transfer them from 8bit to 16bit for use in my audio apps.

I'm gonna go now and make some mp3 at various sample rates and see if you can play them....

I accept that the Audigy will not yield the results of a million dollar studio. However, for the price and the result I can get, I am quite pleased.

I can't get MAD at 24, either... but 16 still sounds good. Also, does anyone have REAL xp drivers for the card? The Creative update won't work, because I'm using leaked drivers, and I can'e install official ones, because the CD is win2k, and when I install them, I get a kernel stop.

the AUDGXPDrvupdate.exe doesn't work for me.... it says I need creative drivers already installed.
