Netgear RT314 / 2 Computers / Half-Life Help

Post by Airnate »

I recently bought the Netgear RT314 Router with DSL. I have 2 computers plugged into it right now and when a friend and I try to join the same Half-Life Server on the internet, whoever is the last to join, the other computer will be kicked out of the game. We are using the same CD Key for both machines, and thought that maybe I should have bought 2 games? Reason I didn't was that I thought I read were someone worked around this and didn't need to have 2 CD Keys? Another thing to note is that I'm using Dynamic IP Addressing through PPPoE on the Router. Come to think of it, all the computers can go on the internet just fine, but could gaming have something to do with 2 IP addresses that are logging in to the server, at the same time? I think that may be a problem. If anyone could please help me and point me in the right direction to get online games to work, it would be greatly appreciated!

You need 2 different keys to join the same game.

I've tried to do that with friends before also.

Sorry about that! Thank you. I'll run to wal-mart and get myself another copy. Thanks again!

go to start, run, enter "regedit" click ok.
follow the direction to:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\valve\Half-Life\Settings\key

Dbl click that in the next window simply chang that value to anything close(chang three or four numbers) and it will work. I had to try several times but got it in less than five tries. That will solve the two of the same keys problem.

As for the rest I'm not sure but I think this should work.

I serve and play from the same machine so the question is similar to my situation. All I have to do is add to the HL.exe file target line:
- port 27016 This tells the WON Network that I am joining on "port 27016" Then when I join my own server from the default players port which is "27015" I can play my own server. Should work for you too. Just locate you HL.exe file and create a shortcut to it. Right click on the shortcut, select properties. In the taget line ad - port 27016 Should look somthing like this:

C:\???\Half-Life\hl.exe -port 27016 -console -game cstrike ect....

You can add all sorts of commands to this line. If you need more info mail me.

Key Gens don't work on the internet.

Don't advocate the use of them anyway....
