Mike, I found this info.....see if it works!

If you have a piece of software that refuses to install because it says that
you are not running Windows 2000 (such as the Win2K drivers for a Mustek
scanner!!)
you can simply edit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows
NT/CurrentVersion/ProductName
to say Microsoft Windows 2000 instead of XP and it will install. You may also
have to edit
the version number or build number, depending on how hard the program tries to
verify that
you are installing on the correct OS. I had to do this for my Mustek 1200 CP
scanner
(compatibility mode didn't help!!!) and it worked great, so I now have my
scanner working with XP
(and a tech at Mustek can now eat his words).

BTW, don't forget to restore any changes you make after you get your software
installed.

good luck getting that scanner to work in xp, i have an older visioneer scanner and i emailed them a year ago about win2k drivers, the response was somewhat rude but essentially they said buy a new scanner cause we want your money and were not making win2k drivers for this model

mike, here is more on the hack!

This is a REGISTRY HACK not a new driver. The Windows 2000 drivers WILL WORK in Windows XP if you get into the registry key HKEY_Local_Machine - Software - Microsoft - Windows NT - Current Version and change "Microsoft Windows XP" to "Microsoft Windows 2000". Then install the Windows 2000 drivers. Don't let the computer reboot... cancel the reboot, then change the registry key back to "Microsoft Windows XP" then reboot. Go into device manager, enable the USB device and reinstall the drivers. It will work, I just did it after leaving my scanner dead for 2 weeks.
