I too would like to know.

There are so many functions.

People can get porn, articles, game updates, warez, and all sorts of other crap.

How do they work???

it's a giant unmodderated BBS.

still the wild west.

it is up to your isp to keep a news server. and keep it updated.
some will delete or rotate files and post on a daily basis.

it is huge, i have 33,000+ catagories from my isp alone each one of those are subdivided into thousands more sometimes.

eveything from movies to files to, talk to, pictures(binaries) to what ever.

read this thread for a reader, a good reader. not outlook express crap.

go to thier homepage or call....they should have a list of news, e-mail servers and such.

as an example mine is news.earthlink.net

and i have to log on with my username and password for earthlink.

Oright well I called them... its: news-server.optonline.net for anyone else looking for it. I love optimum tech support. Thnx for the help though guys, I just didnt think of coming back to this thread until after I got off the phone.

Thanks Portspy, I have been wondering how to get the newsgroups to work with OOL, I just never got a chance to call them.

Oh man.....do this...after you download all the available groups...(done automatic with Gravity) a box will pop up...simply do a search for what interests you....ANYthing....

How about the rock group Phish? ...yep it's there. how about Photoshop? Into programs? MP3s? How about audio books?

Maybe betime stories? Try typing in stories.

......

Oh yeah get ready for all the spam also....learn to use rules.

If your on @home, I'll explain how to set up Gravity to access more than one news server so you can look for incomplete files in the binary groups.

Oh yeah, type in biniaries. LOL
