Suggestions For New Build

First things first Im just wanting to upgrade my CPU, motherboard, and ram. I have everything else I need. Right now Im running a Q6600 on an ASUS board with 4GB Ram.

Here is what I use my computer for:
TONS of HD video ripping and encoding and lots of RAR and UNRAR of very large files.
Watch Blurays
Play an occasional game, maybe 6 times a month.

Mainly what Im wanting is something thats going to rip through my applications (ripping, UNRAR, RAR, etc) like crazy. I dont have a preference on AMD or Intel. Ive had both over the years and Im not loyal to one. I just dont want to spend a ton of money and want something thats a good bang for the buck.


Id love to hear everyones suggestions. If you need more information Ill provide whatever you need Ive just been out of the loop lately and need to know whats best for me.

Wthout knowing how much you want to spend... Video editing, look at the Intel I7 cpu and go with at least 16 gb or ram. Finding a mobo that will accompany both isn't too hard and with the price of ram it shouldn't cost too much.

Id like to keep it around $400 for the budget. $500 max. Would the 8 core AMD processor be better for my use than an i7?

an I7 will generally be faster from what i have read, are you going to be overclocking the CPU

$400 budget will be tight.

you can get 16GB of ram for about $80 nowadays, a 3770K CPU is about $359 or so, a mobo is going to run from say, $120 up to $350

the 3770K will overclock and has hyperthreading as well, maybe a 2600K would be somewhat cheaper but will use more electricity.

is yo 6600 overclocked yet, they usually overclock well mine goes to about 3.6Ghz if i push it hard, 3.2 should be easy with hardly any voltage increase.

i am wanting to upgrade my PC in my signature as well, but can't really afford it right now, plus i was hoping for a 6 or 8 core intel CPU based system, but the cheapest 6 core runs about $550 nowadays

But this is for an entire system.. the mobo, ram, and cpu are roughly $430.. you could go to 16g g.skill sniper gaming series 2133 but it would be $80 more taking the total to just over $500.

You could spend a lot more going to the i7 CPU but from what I've read, you're not getting bang for the buck. I could be wrong, if anyone has another opinion, your response would be greatly appreciated. I'm about to pull the trigger on ordering 3 of these systems for the office. My gaming machine is similar, just with an SSD and a beafier graphics card.

What did you end up with.?

My rig seems to be getting some BSOD lately. I pulled one stick of ram and its been staying up and running.
I do the same as you. Large Rar files ripping and such.
Looking for the best speed for this task. Buget that same as you.
