BIOS settings can't be changed....

Post by famous1681 »

I have a HP Compaq Business desktop dc5000 small form, I replaced the battery because it wasn't saving the time and date.I noticed that when I bought of the guy, and then when I changed the RAM. Before I changed the battery I couldn't change the settings in the BIOS, and now that I changed the battery same result... I need it to work so I can install a graphics card and also change the Fan speed, I see all the settings I want to change but nothing changes, and when I want to save and exit it doesn't exit or do anything, all I can do is ignore settings and exit. Not that it matters anyway since I can't change any setting.

The computer doesn't have the floppy disk drive, incase you guys wanted to know that.

Any help would greatly help.

Many of these comps from makers like Dell and HP don't allow you to make certain changes to the bios to start with...going to assume this is the problem. Install the graphics card at which it should disable the onboard at that point ..unlikely will you be able to control fan speeds in the bios on that comp.

Ok. well idk if you know Ken, one of SG members, but anyway, he sent me a PCI graphics card with the drivers in a CD, I followed his instructions and the computer booted up,and showed the Windows logo thing with the loading, but then i got a black screen, when i get to the log in screen....Idk what to do.

Also is there A way I can deal with the issue of not having control over the settings in the BIOS,which stuns me I cant change NOTHING, nada, zip....

a PCI card or a PCI-Express card? What card is it? What power supply is in the computer? I mean a bit more information goes along way in figuring out this problem but there isn't much you can do about adjusting certain things in the Bios cause that's just how HP wants it.
