XP Pro My Network Places

Post by reaser »

Very strange problem. One of our locations does not see all network computers on the domain when using My Network Places/Entire Network/Microsoft Windows Network/DomainName.

Also when using My Network Places only our Domain shows up as accessible. No other workgroups show up. There are 3 other workgroups setup that are not on the domain that some agents use.

I can use the search active directory link and see the domain computers fine. I have checked and rechecked that the computers at this location are in the domain and have the correct IP settings. I'm really at a loss here.

What would cause this?

What IP address to computers in this location use as their DNS server? The IP of the domain controller(s)? Or a router? Or something else?

We have an MPLS private network here are some of the IP Settings:

Office 1 - DC/DNS Server 10.10.1.250
Office 2 - WINS Server 10.10.10.252

Office 3 - Router IP 10.10.4.1
Office 3 - Workstation IP settings:
IP Address: 10.10.4.29
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 10.10.4.1
DNS Servers: 10.10.1.250
WINS Server: 10.10.4.252

Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled.

Computer browser service is on.

Typo?

Are those remote workstations logging into the domain? Or are they doing just a workgroup/local logon?

Hmmm....
Do they have exceptionally long login periods...like applying network settings and applying computer settings takes longer than usual?

Do you get replies if you ping the DNS and WINS servers by IP address?

And what if you ping them by netbios name?

Login times seem to be normal speeds. No major delays at all. I can ping by IP and netbios name.

It's very odd because if I go into the Search Active Directory link I am able to browse all the computers on the domain. It's only If I follow My Network Places>Entire Network>Microsoft Windows Network>Our Domain that it only shows local computers.
