Was running Raid 0 in this rig with win XP (2 74 Gig Raptors)
I converted this to be my homeserver with Win 7 and just installed one raptor drive at that time.
Well The other raptor has been just sitting around. Why not use it.
Steps I tried to convert back to Raid 1(Figured will try this for a backup type system)
First I backed up the complete raptor drive with Acronis true image to a second drive in that pc. After back up I disconnected that drive.
Connected both raptors and adjusted the bios to Raid. Upon boot up I enter the raid screen and set as raid 1 mirror. Its ask somthing about backing up my current drive. I thought cool I wont lose my data. So I pick my source drive and it copys(mirrors) it to the second drive. So far so good
After full copy it reboots and get to the win 7 Splash screen(Starting windows) and then reboots.
I would imagine I need win 7 Raid drivers. I tried to load them at the repair screen but this is a Soltek 939 board. The CD rom only has drivers for win 2000,xp and nt2000. I figured it if it had vista drivers I could get it to work.
I disconnected one drive adjusted bios to sata and win 7 booted like I had it. (Did not lose any data)
I was even able to boot with the other drive. so I have a full backup as it sits.
I went back into my bios and tunned raid back on. The current drive is on a Sata port. This MB is older so it had 2 sata ports and 2 ports for raid config.
With that on when I goto device mang I see the yellow exclaimation for hte raid driver not installed. I tried online search and my CD rom with no luck.
Its a onboard raid(promise 478)
If I can get the driver loaded I think I will be in luck to get raid back up and running.
I am trying to use the raid ports becuase the Sata ports describe themselves IDE. The Raptor drive is 1.5m/b When setting as ide does it slow down to a ATA133 tx rate or is it 1.5m/b??
My specs are in my sig below- Server pc
Thanks
Dennis
