I'm going to buy a new laptop from one of these companies, which one
do you guys recommend:
Toshiba
Lenovo - (I think they used to be IBM)
Acer
Dell
For the price, I can get more laptop for the money buy choosing any of the three, excluding Dell. The main reason for getting the laptop is for remoting into other computers, emailing and internet.
Thanks for your opinions.

Dell Latitude if you insist on Dell. Dell also has a factory outlet.
Acer makes some nice laptops also, years ago they bought up Texas Instruments laptop division. Decent laptops.
Toshi makes pretty good laptops, but in my experience service for them is painful.
What's good about factory outlets...you get factory refurbished rigs that usually come off lease, or are cancelled orders. Cancelled orders gets you basically a brand new laptop. Factory refurbs are usually at most 1 year old, and thoroughly checked out. For years I've gotten factory refurb Thinkpads for myself, you pay about 1/3 the price of what it was new, and there's usually still the majority of the warranty left.
Example..my current laptop, a Thinkpad T61P, Core 2 Duo, 7,200rpm drive, 256 meg ATI FireGL graphics, Intel Pro gigabit NIC and Intel B/G wireless, Bluetooth, it was almost 2K new, I snagged it for mid 600 bucks. When I got it it was 9 months old, and visually..brand new. In my experience with laptops, I'll take a slightly used Thinkpad over any other brands new laptop any day of the week.

I agree with staying away from Toshiba's too..pain in the butt.
My suggestion is the Dell models, I agree with the latitude selections too but for the price a nice inspiron will run great for about 500$ and be sure to add the complete care warranty which covers you in case of accidents.. do the 4 year warranty. You won't regret it!
Thanks All, I think I'll stay away from Toshiba.. that's too bad, because they used to be really good..
Funny you said that about the "canceled orders" because my Dad just sent me a link from Dell listing those.. That might be a good option.
Thanks again, guys, I appreciate it.

Lenovo is still the only brand I would personally buy, even though the build quality on the ThinkPads has gone down a little (keyboard flex, mainly). T series. There's a 20% off coupon code at Lenovo's site right now through April 6.
Acer, I usually recommend them to clients. Usually you get along of bang for your buck and I have yet to see any issues with them. I personally have one and use it regularly and have no issues whatsoever with it. You can go as low as $500 up to $1500 for their gamer versions. For what you are going to do a $500-$600 model is perfect.

Yep.. I went with Acer. I know they have good LCD's and their peripherals are fairly decent. I've had this for a few weeks now. And I am very happy with it.
If I go anywhere.. it nice to know that I have it to remote into my computers at home.
Thanks everyone for you input.
