Any info on when GPU's will see a price drop?

Post by velvta »

On the verge now of needing a new graphics card. Was wondering if there's going to be a price drop on the horizon? Dont want to spend 100 now when in 2 months the ones for 150 will be that price and I could have got more bang for the buck.

IMO we've already seen that a couple of years ago. You can purchase quite a potent card for 90 - 115 bucks now.

prices are pretty stable right now and won't likely drop that much.. you can get a very nice 8600GT 512mb card for less than 50$ which will play just about any game right now with medium to high settings. Watch the deals and watch for good rebates.

I would tend to agree that the prices on video cards are pretty stable and have been so for a long time. They all tend to shift around a bit more whenever AMD (Radeon) or nVidia put out some new products. Which has happened recently which is why you might be seeing things move around right now.

ok thanks. Right now I have a geforce 800 gt, its a few years old. I cant even run GTA4. I am looking to spend about 100 on a new card and I need a new PSU. Any of you hardware gurus have any combo recommendations?

Well GTA4 says it needs a geforce 7900 or ati x1900, recommended are geforce 8600 or ati 3870.

With rebates its $110 instead of 130. A bit more card than it says is needed to help push it in higher res.

And for a PSU:

Good efficiency, strong single 12v rail, well made PSU.

Bit cheaper, split 12v rails: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817341010

Look into a used 4850. They have been hovering about the 100-130 area and can be overclocked nicely.
