Cleaning keyboard

Post by 24giovanni »

When I was in school, my teacher told us it was ok to throw our keyboard in the washing machine to clean it. Has anyone ever heard of that and actually done it?

I've heard of that for floppy drives.....I think I've heard of that for keyboards. The key is, as long as you dry them fully before putting them back in. Most keyboards are rather water resistant, rubber membranes below the keys.

I've heard its ok in the dish washer, as long as its just water, no soap or jet-dry stuff.

And yes it must be totally dried out 100% before power hits it.

yeah I've cleaned a keyboard out by running it under running tap water then drying it out for like 2-3 days..but as said ya gotta make 100% sure its dry before plugging it up.

Likely a semantics thing but I'd never want to put my hardware in a washing machine (for clothing). But yeah in a dish washer, on the top rack with the drying element turned off, can be ok for most things. And of course as everyone has said make sure it's good and dried out before use.

Thou it would be fun to see a bunch of hardware on the spin cycle heh heh heh.
