media disconnected problem

i am trying to create a wireless network on my home computer, but am actually having trouble even connecting the wireless access point to my computer via an ethernet cable.

I have run ipconfig and it comes up with this data about ethernet adapter:

ethernet adapter local area connection................... media disconnected
description.................intel (r) pro/100 VE Network Connection

why is my ethernet adapter disconnected how do i connect it is, it a button or a setting i can change on my computer,

type in the run box in the start menu and type cmd and then in cmd type ipconfig/renew

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the NIC

and make sure ethernet light on modem is ON and ethernet cable is properly plugged-in
