connecting to a node

Post by zapp_u »

hello everyone.
my pc is connected to a wireless router which also serves a laptop. the router gets the net connection from an adsl modem. when i try to find my ip using any ip finding service, it shows the ip given to my adsl modem, which is obvious. if i put the ip in my browser address bar, it takes me to my modem configuration page. ok till here. but what i want to know is that how do i connect to the laptop which is inside the network . i hope u get it. i have given my pc the ip 192.168.1.1 and the laptop 192.168.1.2. Now i want to know the contents of the address bar so i can reach my laptop.
thanks

You probably cannot issue the LAN IP address of 192.168.1.1 to your PC as this address is commonly that of the router.

See this link on method to set static LAN IP addresses to your computers:

http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

To share files among computers in a LAN, run the Network Connection Wizard of your Windows.

ya ok my mistake, it was an example. actually my pc has ip 192.168.2.5 and the other one has 192.168.2.2, getting connection from a wireless router which in turn is feeded by an adsl modem having internal ip 192.168.1.1 .
But what i wanted to know is how to connect directly to one of my machines from outside without the interference of the router.
suppose i want my pc to connect to my friends pc directly which is behind an adsl modem/router. cause when i try to connect to him, i get stuck at the modem.

From outside meaning from another WAN IP address?

In such a case, you need to configure your router to accept VPN tunneling for remote operation. See - http://compnetworking.about.com/od/vpn/ ... neling.htm

I am not versed in this procedure. Post a specific thread in the Networking section of our forum.
