identity theft

Post by hoss »

So I think someone is trying to steal my identity....

I have a corporate Amex purchasing card. I started getting calls Monday morning at work from credit counseling agencies and a few online stores. The credit counselors were asking about my recent online inquiry, and the online stores were calling about suspicious orders. All if it I did not initiate.

So I asked our accounting department to look at the recent activity on my card, and sure enough, there were about 3 pages of fraudulent charges from the weekend. None were over $50. So we shut the card off and I'm still getting e-mail notices that my recent transaction was declined.

Today I got another call from a credit counselor. I told him I wasn't interested and that it was a fake request. I asked him for the contact info he was given, and it was my work phone number and an e-mail address that wasn't mine. I've asked several others who have called for the same info and each one were given the same e-mail address.

So here's my question. I realize that the e-mail address probably isn't legit, or being checked. Should I start to send a few messages to it just to mess with the person and see if I get anything back from them? I wouldn't be doing it to get anything out of it like I am trying to catch them online and going to call the police right away and have the ip address traced. I'm mainly looking to do it just for fun and to get a little revenge on whoever is doing this.

Reply and have some fun. If you find out where he/she/it lives post it and maybe someone will break their fingers.
