I have been thinking about a career change and have been eying this course. It is VERY pricey @ $25k for the 6 month program and was curious what others think. Even though this appears to be a quality outfit, is it really worth it?

Scam
I heard about it. Got every question wrong on purpose but one and they told me I was accepted and was higher than 90% of people who took the test.

how old are you? While training and certs can help, you really ought to just get out and get a low-level tech support or help-desk job and pay your dues. Often times your employers will then pay to send you to the decent training programs if they see promise in your abilities.

Well there in lies the problem...I'm old(35) and can't give up too much in terms of pay to make an entry level start, but i've been doing the same thing for nearly 14 years and i'm ready for a change. I'm just getting a feel for what's out there and see what i want to do. There are BIG IT opportunities within my company (Fedex Corp) but I will have to make a move to one of 4 cities (lakeland, fl, harrison, ar, colorado springs, co or san jose, ca.) Not to mention everything worth having job-wise requires higher education, which i do not have. A move in the current to near future would not be practical but down the road a bit would be a strong possibility.Blisster wrote:how old are you? yeah it can be tough. I decided to jump into IT when I was 32 years old. I was fortunaltey in a position where I could take a substantial pay-cut to pay my dues. I'm now almost back to where I was before, but the ceiling is much higher, and I can honestly see myself doing this sort of work until i retire.
If there are opportunities at your current company, you should do all you can to try and pursue that. That is exactly how a good friend of mine got into IT. He was essentially a maintenence guy fr his company for a few years, changing lightbulds and unclogging toilets. He got to know the IT staff really well (lol, just a different kind of janitor really) and eventually when a position came open in the department he made a move on it. he's now fairly high on the IT team, has been sent to all kinds of training (and has taken a lot of night classes on his own) and loves what he does and makes a lot more money. It can happen if you work for it
