Home networking issue. need urgent help!

Post by Danimal1209 »

ok heres my situation

i play a game which requires very low latency.
my parents use their wireless laptop upstairs, and im plugged into the wireless router.

im using a linksys wrt45g and a charter modem.
ive prioritized my game in the router and my port on the router but it doesnt seem to change a thing, i figure its the wireless aspect of the router that is causing my latency, am i correct in thinking so? when her computer was wired, i didnt have this issue.

and wut i was thinking of doing, was either wiring my parents laptop upstairs or i was going to buy a wired gamefuel router and use it to plug my computer into, and also plug the wireless router into the lan port. would this help at all? would buying a new modem make any difference, the charter one is like 4 years old.

thx for ANY help.

I'm not fond of playing online games over wireless also....after a few months in the place I'm at...router on first floor, gaming rig on 3rd floor..wireless just didn't cut it.

Picked myself up a pair of power adapters (Linksys PLE200)...it's just as good as being wired. Same exact ping I had on my favorite server as when I used to be plugged right into my router. I'm in the middle of moving ...so old house was wired with CAT6, I'll only be in this house for maybe a year until I sell my old one and purchase a new one in this town...so being as I'll be here less than a year..not worth the money running CAT6 for 3 floors.

yeah, i would do that too BUT im not wireless.

im plugged into the router via Ethernet, my parents are using the wireless to surf internet and do work from home.

i saw some routers that can set dedicated bandwidth to each port that weren't to expensive but i dont think those are what they say.

i saw the REAL ones are like 400 hundred bucks, which, inst worth a game.

Did you take a look on DDWRT (3rd party firmware) that you can use on WRT54G, there is bandwidth management feature to optimize for gaming. Check its wiki page..

Ahh..missed that.....
Do you experience latency only when they're online surfing? Or say...when their PC is off...how is your latency?
