Bought a computer two weeks ago, around $1500. Unexpected expense came up all of a sudden, so I'm returning the PC until it gets handled.
Call Dell, set up a return. I am 7 days left in my 21-day satisfaction thingamajig.
The lady informs me there is a 15% restock fee PLUS the return freight. I can't ship it back on my business shipping account which is cheaper, gotta do it through them.
The total restock fee + freight is a shade over $300. HOLY CANDLEABRA TITS.
The lady literally laughed at me, telling me it's like "setting a match to the computer."
Used to be, you could return things to them within 21 days and you're only out shipping and handling. If the expense wasn't as large as it was, i'd keep the thing, but it just wasn't possible.
and the really sad part is you could potentially buy the exact same PC through thier refurbished section and probably pay less (even with the retun stocking fee and shipping) than the original cost.

Did you pay by Credit card and did you sign the cc slip? If not, just tell them you'll do a charge-back if they don't pick it up free of charge and waive the restocking fee. That should get their attention.

It says that a 15% restock fee MAY be applied. Trust me, I tried to get out of it.
Restocking Fees: Unless the product is defective or the return is a direct result of a Dell error, a restocking fee of 15% may be charged on hardware, accessories, peripherals, parts and unopened software still in its/their sealed package, and on software that has not been downloaded if the software is delivered electronically.
So basically, they don't tell you what the conditions are for the fee, just that it may be applied. They're covered, I just have to take the nutpunch.

Just one more reason why I put Dell in the same category as a used car salesman on a corner lot. They have more ways than anyone I know of to keep your money.

True, I would've poured a tiny amount of water into the psu, just enough to blow the thing but not be noticeable when they go to check it out. Just stand back though

Just another reason why I'll never own, sell or recommend dell to anyone.........
Dell is great for business only order it through business division..and never have an issue, then again we never have to return stuff because we know what we want before we order, so i never had to return anything unless their mistake and then it no costs

You act like I'm returning it because I "didn't know what I wanted." Welcome back to SG. Now run along to an NYC firefighter thread.
