was trying to find a way of putting my feeling on the matter without typing out a 6000 word dissertation, so here goes......

i don;t have much pity who for people who choose to (physically) fight police officers.

// thought pattern//........ ok, this guy just pissed me off. lets see.... he's got a wide array of items on his person which he could use against me to inflict anything from incapacitation to blinding pain, and he;s trained in their use...... oh, and he;s got friends.... lots and LOTS of friends who could be here within 4 minutes or less. who would all gleefully stomp my carcass into dust if i try hard enough.

folks need to choose their battles more carefully.

I am in a wheelchair and I think he got what he deserved. Just cause someone is handicapped doesnt always mean they should get special treatment...especially if they are threatening the police.

If you got hit with either of them, believe me, you'd take the taser any day. It's really nothing, makes you drop, that's about it.

Mace, not used much anymore, it's chemically manufactured, and quite a few people have no reaction to it.

Pepper Spray is more popular these days, it's organic (Oleoresin Capsicum...CapStun...basically pepper oil from inedibly hot pepper plants)...so pretty much everyone has a physiological reaction to it. You're in pain for 15 - 30 minutes.

Dunno who here's done a blast of pepper spray, but if you've done it...I'll wager you closed your eyes, and held your breath, when someone blasted you in the face. To get the true effects of it, remember, it's usually used in the heat of a struggle, when people are usually breathing deeply...that's where it gets the full effect. Cannister must be shaken well, else only propellant will be shot out. Must be shot at a distance, so the droplets of pepper oil disperse in the air properly. Here's where it gets full effectiveness...target is assumed to be under heavy physical activity, thus breathing hard...nice deep breath of it through mouth and/or nasal passage, it's like igniting a flame thrower right down someones throat. Eyes watering...simply icing on the cake.

Oh yeah, the next shower you take, when the water hits your head and runs down your face...taking any oil droplets that landed in your face with it, your eyes will get another nice little reminder.
