I had this problem when i first installed winxp on my hdd. I originally had win2k on it and i used the same particians. Well i formatted completely and repartitioned, then reinstalled windows xp and its good to go. Do some google searches they have tons of "FIXES" for the problems....

Ok, that's why ntldr is missing. ntldr is a file loaded by the windows install, and is needed to boot to windows.

You'll have to install windows. Put the Windows CD in and reboot. Follow instructions from there.

If it doesn't boot to the CD and start the windows install, you may have to enter the bios setup and arrange the boot order to have the CDRom boot as first boot device.

It will, if the CD is a bootable CD, the CDRom on your system is a boot device, and your bios supports booting to CD.
But in the BIOS setup you have to have it boot to CD as first boot device.

What CD are you talking about?
Is it an XP CD, or is it a Dell restore CD?

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000465.htm

There is a page of possible causes, and solutions. Go through them all and see if any can help your situation.

I suspect your cd isn't bootable, and the hd is not yet bootable either since it has no system files on it..

Try a 98 bootdisk (floppy)and when it boots up type:
sys c:
and [enter]

Then try install again.

Press any key to boot from the CD

When you see this message press any key such as the Enter key immediately, otherwise it will try booting from the hard drive and likely get the NTLDR error again.

When they say immediately they mean it.
