Did you hear how apple was trying to rob people , if your ipod battery dies you had to get a new ipad. Some people made a movie that is on the net about it after the movie came out apple niether confirms or denies that movie had any effect in the change of policy. Apple is now allowing to send replacemnet bateries then buying a whole new ipod.

You can buy replacement batteries for like $40.
Respect it.
Burke-
I've read a couple of bad reviews of the iTrip, the most recent in the January issue of Wired. There's a few others that they recommend in the review as well. Keep me posted onhow it preforms as I have been iBalling similar devices for a little while now.

Um, have you been following Burke's threads regarding the ipod and its batteries? Apple made it preferable to simply pitch your old unit rather than pay their fee for a new battery.
I do believe the average SGer realizes that batteries die. The aftermarket is fairly large and pronounced.

Toss a $400 iPod instead of buying a $49 battery????

Or pay $99 for Apple to do it for you:
http://www.info.apple.com/support/apple ... rvice.html
Or $59 for a full 2 year warranty on the IPod which will cover the battery replacement:

yes, david, i read a LOT more apple news than i do SG (i rarely visit this spam infested place anyway), i do not need a "did you read this and this by this member?"
A simple google search for "ipod battery" would've gotten you the answers, i've had lots of rechargeable batteries die on me, I havent called up the manufacturer to complain david.
The warranty is expired, and you expect the manufacturer to just replace it for you? They do as they please, simple business practices david, $250 for them is money just like it is to you. Again, a simple google search would have gotten you you the answers to your problems, and how long did that take, what, 10 seconds? Sure the consumer has to do some work, but so what? it's like you shopping for a mobo, it takes what, a minute to find the lowest price?

Sure doesnt seem like it.

Which is fine. When you post in all caps, it implies that you are shouting. Insulting people does not help either. Anyone who has owned a battery operated device is probably aware that these power sources have a limited life span. No one in this thread implied that Apple should hand out free batteries. It is expected that such would be easy to replace in an expensive item such as the ipod. Apple had been charging a usuary fee for the service. This was the point of contention. The outcry concerning the price of replacement caused an adjustment in price and of course the aftermarket, QED.

EDIT>>>>

I apologize for the thread jack.

Wow dude, party on....
ONE person made a reference to the battery issue and here you go, insulting the general population of SG as if we all felt the same way.
I see no need to insult the population of SG based on ONE post that irked you.
get over it.
and yes, I own 2 PC's, a Powerbook AND an iPod.

I wasn't sure if people read that article or not like i said the battery stroy was on the news about 3- 4 days ago they made it sound like a recent issue but i found the article the news didn't report untill now. I wasn't trying to argue i just thought people weren't aware of it that's all. Grant it was a topic that was a side note but ipod related so i thought it applied.
So if anything i will apoligize to burke but hey i was just tying to make a conversation.

everytime i try and make a supposed point i get nailed down for "hostility."
Where did i define SG as ignorant? and where did i say i dont like this place?
Yeah dude, i keep coming back to tell you guys how much you suck, yup. thats right.. yeah.
I dont know how many threads i read here that some common sense wouldnt solve, in fact, sometimes you can tell people are IGNORING the facts, and are just babbling on and on about false info again, and again, and again. A rechargeable battery dies, yeah, maybe everybody here knows that, but you expect the ipod to have an infinite battery life?
Blisster, good for you, i own just a PB, and am planning on getting a g5 at the end of this month (g5's hit 90nm BTW, totally owning intel).

posting in all caps was more like an alert. Dude, 'expected to be easy to replace'??
are you kidding me? It's the same freaking difficulty level as any mp3 player! dell's is the same, samsung's the same, anything harddrive based has a pretty hard to open chassis. Hell, an easy to open HDD based mp3 player would probably not be as asthetically pleasing as the current ones (probably bigger too).

Easy there, fanboy......The Ipod was the player in question and the one that had brought the attention of the net media. If a part was meant to be replaced, such as the battery (Assuming that the engineers at Apple share our knowledge of the limits of Li-ion cells), it would be safe to assume that it might be designed to be consumer serviceable. These are not wristwatches. Again, Apple changed their policy regarding the pricing of the replacement and aftermarket parts have ameliorated the situation. All is fair.
